I would agree that its probably a pressure issue.

Probably stored and sat somewhere cold with the wrong pressures. As RW3200 said I have had race bikes sat in the garage over winter do something similar. Thats on tyres that are less than a year old.

Can you tell if the car has had periods without use ?

It looks like it's had a lot of sitting around at 1400 miles a year, 3500 miles in the first 2.5 years

How on earth somebody could own a GT and drive it so little is astounding

I bought from a main dealer. I'd been watching the car on their website for some time. I think the first (private) owner put 2,400 on the clock over about 18 months, then the dealer used it as a static display car (so they told me) and put another 8-900 on the clock after that moving it to various shows etc. I've done 3,000 or so in it since April, pretty much all at weekends - I don't drive during the week.
I emailed Pirelli last night - let's see where we get to with them. FWIW I check the pressures weekly, and they stay pretty much spot-on. They certainly haven't been run significantly under or over inflated since I've had the car.

So - Pirelli to their credit have replied very promptly. Sabrina wants me to replace the tyres myself, which will then get sent back to Pirelli for examination and a decision on next steps, normally within 10 days. I guess this could go a number of ways. I'll keep this thread updated with any action, positive or negative. Hopefully I won't have to resort to social media to get a result!

Fair play to them, hope this ends well. Perhaps Maserati should pay attention at how quickly they replied :/

Yes, that is an excellent response time. Shows it is possible and the decent thing to do.
Good luck Sticks, hope you get a good result.
Look forward to your update and hopefully praising Pirelli on some top notch after care.

Are you going to replace them with Pirelli, if you'd sooner change brands because of this I'd think carefully before spending a lot of money on Pirelli tyres you might not get back

Overinflation will cause that, saw similar happen on a track tyre when we were hunting for best pressures and got a bit extreme. Could also be a manufacturing defect, but i'd expect a bit of noise on the net about it.

Have heard that similar can happen when an air compressor thats got a tank full of moisture is used to inflate a tyre - basically pressures at cold are good but go through the roof when hot. No idea if thats true though but sounds plausible.

So - we have new boots. Fitter has to fax complaint sheet to Pirelli, who then take the offending pair away for testing. What I'm thinking is that they must have been completely duff. I've only driven about 50 miles on the new set, but turn in is noticeably sharper, and the front end seems more stable in general. Let's see what Mr Pirelli makes of the old ones! image.jpg

Wouldn't be surprised if they were fakes made in China, they seem to make copies of almost everything else!

Unlikely in this case as the age and miles seem to point to factory supplied tires.

But I agree, Chinese crapware is finding it's way into everything.
Virtually all turbo replacements for sale on eBay are Chinese made crapware

You took the words out of my keyboard Davy. If only Maserati UK had the authorisation from Italy to engage in respectable customer relations.

Well done Sticks, real good to hear.
And good on Pirelli for showing they value their customers.
