The possessive apostrophe is intriguing. Consider 2 men, one called Marcus and one called Rockits.

1. Marcus's car is red.
OR
2. Marcus' car is red.

3. Rockits' car is blue.
OR
4. Rockits's car is blue.

Many people would go for 1 and 3, which would be inconsistent even if it sounds best.

Gotta love the English language...

My erstwhile partner says noun declensions have almost appeared in English, last remnants being the possessive (genitive, apostrophe 's'), accusative (me, her, him etc) and dative I think she said, who/whom. On the other hand I wasn't listening so it could be all wrong. Look at Russian ones, I learn these by wrote, so every time I speak I have to mentally bring up the table, and look down, then across, then speak.

But Rockits is singular and has only one CC for sale...

I actually meant possessive apostrophe not a plural. But I still believe I was right about this. Although having googled I do confess that it’s also fine to have Rockits’s.

Shame you can't count

We digress, the OP wants a manual. Why do people suggest otherwise?

After digressing, if asked for my opinion, I’d suggest a cambiocorsa as I believe it is a considerably better car. I know it’s been debated and discussed loads of times, but that’s my opinion, and I’ve driven 4 manuals and at least 100 Cambiocorsas so I do feel I am commenting based on substantial experience.

Sorry DG, didn't meant to offend. Just piiss taking comes natural to me whether I'm in the wrong or not. I have literally no friends....

With humble apologies DG. Unlike self-appointed experts no one here, particularly those fortunate enough to have benefited from your expertise, would ever doubt your credentials. Just the opposite. As above, just taking the micky.

The good thing about not being particularly well educated is I have no idea what you academics are talking about

However back to the OP.....welcome to the clear and obvious madhouse!

You have decided on a cracking car that is the 4200 I've had 3 and one twice. I've only driven a couple of manuals and neither were that great. I suspect a.good one would be good but not experienced one to comment. I have no issues with the CC box and think it really suits the car.

The manual has longish linkage cables to the transaxle box so if these are worn, stretched or not adjusted well I think that is when the manuals are not so great.

For how much I drive my cars it wasn't the be all and end all for me to have one or the other. Maybe drive one of each and see what you think. You don't know until your try.

Your welcome to look at mine and drive it any time. I've also got a mint 2007 4200 that has just ticked over 15k miles. Your welcome to see that one as well but I'm not selling it

I'm Potters Bar, Hertfordshire way.

I think after two pages of grammar sh!t you have probably scared Mks_89 sh!t less and has ran off with his tail between his legs!!

Richard; I had to read your last post about three times before it sank in, and after some of our previous correspondence! I am also very paranoid about everything I am writing now!

Thank you all for the lovely welcome and all the advice. @rockits thank you for the offer, i will take you up on that.
Thread has gone completely off topic, looool.
I’m used to the craziness, i work in a really busy A&E department, so go figure.

The thread drift round here is legendary. This isn’t like working in A&E, more like being trapped in a mental asylum. But at least the windows are clean.

Welcome and i’m sure you’ll like Dean’s car, it’s the one with the for sale signs on it ;)

Apostrophes are always contentious. According to Palmer the apostrophe denotes omission of the -e in old Anglo Saxon in which the genitive ended in -es; Johnes car, girles clothes, but we stopped using the -e and replaced it with an apostrophe. Strict usage of the genitive for a person with an -s at the end of their name would be to add an apostrophe and an -s, as we do when speaking; we say "Jesus's donkey" or "Rockits's car" but whilst that would also be correct in written English it is customary to omit the final -s. The pedant's punctiliousness - when a greengrocer's apostrophe induces torsade de pointes!

You have confused me now Richard. Post 6 you recommend a CC. Post 27 you suggest a manual.

I think post 27 is a typo but please confirm.
