Handbrake switch

New pads, shoes and discs fitted - off for MoT today so as usual fingers crossed they don't find anything else and the new parts have bedded in enough to work.

I have noticed the handbrake on light doesn't light up on the dash - the bulb is fine it shows on the initial start up check, but the handbrake light doesn't come on with the application of the brake.

I didn't notice any loose wires at the wheel end so assume its under the lever somewhere or hidden under the car - any pointers?

Car is a 2001 3200

Funnily enough mine has gone and I hope to get mine on the ramp later this week. Will let you know what I find.

Afternoon all,

I think I have this problem with my GS at the moment - works fine on startup but not when handbrake engaged. Any clues/pointers before I order the switch and set to it?

not seen that before... have you checked everything else? I dont believe the hand brake is linked to strat up?

If I remember, the microswitch broke on mine. I replaced it with a similar one from Maplin.

Hmm not given it a thorough check yet so will have a look at the brake end but everything seems to be running fine just handbrake light on dash does not come on when it is applied although handbrake itself works okay.

Thanks on the Maplin reference - may give them a look.

Anything to look out for on removal particularly what am I like to break!

Maplin are only online now and do not sell discreet components anymore. You might want to try CPC, Farnell or RS.
