Ok - I am planning to retire in 2023 and want to do something outrageous - and a mate suggested we start putting money aside and try and get a place on the Gumball Rally.

It looks to be crazy expensive like £100k to enter so we would need to be sure it’s not all hype and shite.

So anyone done it, or know anyone who has?

Havent done it but researched it a bit. The cost vastly depends on the route (if there are airplanes involved its way more) and how hard you want to party and drive.

There are a lot of more money friendly alternatives for driving and partying a week. Maybe not as totally crazy as gumball but might be cool to drive 5-10 rally's instead of just one Gumball.

2019 route was London Tokyo - completely and utterly bonkers !

I get what you say about doing many more other rallies for our money......... and that got to be worth thinking about.

I may well do the European Cannonball next year as a warm up ..........

My biggest fear is that there won’t be enough “real” people taking part ......

My biggest fear would be no more V8's, just electric hybrids..

Its coming!

Just give the Sofitel in Lyon a miss …. oh, wait a minute, some of you may recognise this junction:

Rico Rally is meant to be a good laugh; I’ve a mate who goes each time.

Then the Irish Cannonball, I’m going as soon as I can. It’s £1250 per person and I know a few people who go and they’re all great craic.

Another one I would love to do is drive to Cape Town but that’s in a 4x4 and currently a bit dodgy as there’s no safe route

I’d recommend the modball rally - I’ve done it three times. Great mix of people and just a general laugh. Not keen on the 2020 route, so not going, perhaps 2021!
