Guess the Maserati was my gateway drug…

5 years ago, I wouldn’t have said a Maserati was anywhere near on my radar for cars I’d like to buy. And now I’ve bitten the bullet and got my dream car from when I was 14 years old - a 97 Ferrari F355 GTB. To say I’m chuffed would be an understatement! Pretty sure it’s the Maseratis fault as V8s were never really my thing until I got one. I think I’m well and truly addicted! Hopefully this one doesn’t financially cripple me!

It won’t be cheap to run properly but try to stay on top of maintenance & belts etc. They like being driven, don’t put it away for 6-8 months a year.
I use Aldous @ AV Engineering and that is who I would use for a 355 too.
Does it have a standard exhaust?
A 355 with a Capristo is generally considered the best sounding car ‘in the world’ !!

I’m told it has a capristo 2 and sports cats. I haven’t actually seen it yet! It’s being delivered on Monday but it’s all paid for just awaiting collection. And it’ll likely go straight into hibernation for the winter now. It’s due a cambelt service so it will get a thorough look over when it’s out in March.

You are going to be shocked and on cloud 9 if that’s the exhaust setup.. that thing will sound insane!
Ok, so it sounds like it needs a major service and probably a few other bits come spring time. Friend of mine has run his 355 since 2005 and works on his car himself, if you need any assistance/pointers etc, he definitely has the insight into alternative parts etc. just give me shout.
Bet you can’t wait.. do let us know what you think in due course!!
Once again, well done you.

Yeah I think from the PPI, it’s gonna need cambelt service as the last one was 2019. On top of that I think cam cover gaskets and cam seals I’ll prob do whilst the engine is out. Prob also do plugs, maybe leads. And probably gearbox oil. Assuming there isn’t anything else found that is!! Atleast the winter will give me some time to recover from the beating my finances have taken!
Will prob give you a shout in the new year once I’ve had a good look over it. I will prob not drive it just yet. Not gonna risk that 6 year old timing belt for the sake of a few mins of pleasure!

Cool but any Ferrari not in red is cool
Unfortunately not been in a position to buy a Ferrari but I’ve always thought that if I ever was, that my first one would have to be Red and then from there onwards I would have different colours. No idea why but it just seems right in my brain. Like a foundation course in Ferrari ownership or P plates on the back.

Interesting that as everyone presumed I would buy a red one as my father did in the early seventies but my 456 was Tour de France Blue and the 360 was Silver.

355 GTB in manual in yellow with what sounds like a glorious exhaust set up. You owed that to your 14 year old self. Well done!!! This is why we dream.

Fabulous. Well chosen. The 355 is just such a great car, and you can properly thrash it, as it’s not overpowered.

About 15 years ago I ran a similar one, in yellow, as my daily. Great fun.

You may want to source an original 355 steering wheel though, as far better to be looking at the prancing horse in the wheel centre, rather than just the word Momo.

Cheers. The original is with the car but unfortunately it’s the airbag variety. And I don’t fancy forking out the £3000+ that people are asking for the early 3 spoke non airbag! Middle ground seems to be a 348 wheel which isn’t too offensive. But for now I’m saving my pennies for the first major service as no doubt it’ll need more than just the standard service items.

I bought my first the 456 purely so that I could take part in the Guinness World Record at Silverstone back in September 2012 and still stands today.View attachment 143340
That's awesome I did something similar but in a 911 (record for porsche 911 on track at Silverstone back in 2013). Mine was the green one.

Gotta have these things to push us long to do stuff. In my case i had to get the car ready (was also the national concours), In your case you got a 456 for it!

I better not check if there are any more records attempts for ferrari as im not ready but hey im all for as many massers as we can get on track for a record attempt.
