Copied from a previous thread..

I wouldn’t bother with an MC shift if not in a Stradale, especially not over the later Sport gearbox, its excellent in all conditions, whereas the MC shift is excellent in only one condition.

I also really can’t imagine many people with the sport gearbox aren’t anything other than completely satisfied with the sound as is. It’s superb.

Got to say this is completely wrong!

As an MC Shift owner I can say it’s perfectly versatile for all conditions...raw when you want and civilised if (rarely) you don’t.

Just done a 200 mile round trip today through the Lake District with about 60% A&B roads with the rest motorway and cruise control...countless smiles per gallon

Cheers for that.

Do straight pipes instead of an X keep the sound less raspy?

The exhaust design is optimised for there to be a cross over between the banks. The choices you have are to keep the standard silenced x-pipe, an x-pipe made without a silencer which increase the volume and adds some snap crackle and pop, or a H-pipe which uses a different geometry for the crossover, increasing the bass and throb in the exhaust note.

Standard x-pipe:

Unsilenced x-pipe

H-pipe

Im not “completely wrong” you are as it happens..

“Perfectly versatile for all conditions”

Its dreadful in heavy traffic, tight parking and reversing up hills.

It’s not wrong it’s just another opinion. Maserati gave buyers the choice for 5-7 years and people bought what they preferred that’s all. You can’t state something like that is wrong absolutely because it is not. You prefer the MC which is great....for you. Enjoy it whilst you can.

Just continuing this line of questions. I am currently having the same dilemma. Used to have an MC-Shift 2008 and loved the back growl on down change. I have a test drive in an 2016 Auto booked for Tuesday and suspect I'm going to be underwhelmed. Does this mean that to get the same feel as a 2008 MC-shift I'm going to have to stump up the extra £11k for an equivalent MC-Stradale? Also, I heard the Stradale doesn't have a non-Sport setting (enabling me to be considerate to the neighbours when I return home late) but I'm not sure that's true as it was a main dealer telling me that (who's trying to sell me the Auto)

I'd welcome everyone's thoughts/advice, thanks.

Out of interest, how did your test drive go? Was you underwhelmed?
