Hi, my 2009 4.7 GTS has just passed it's MOT with an advisary on the rear disks.
Any idea how much it would cost for supply & fit? I assume the pads would be done at the same time.

I believe the rear discs on all QP and GT/S are all the same, the fronts are different.

Fits: Maserati GranCabrio (2010) 4.7, GranCabrio (2011) 4.7, GranTurismo (2008) 4.2, GranTurismo (2009) 4.2 auto, GranTurismo (2009) 4.7 auto, GranTurismo (2009) 4.7 F1, GranTurismo (2010) 4.2 auto, GranTurismo (2010) 4.7 auto, GranTurismo (2011) 4.2 auto, QTP. (2003) 4.2, QTP. (2005) 4.2, QTP. (2006) 4.2, QTP. (2006) 4.2 F1, QTP. (2007) 4.2 F1, QTP. (2008) 4.2 auto, QTP. (2009) 4.2 auto, QTP. (2009) 4.7 auto, QTP. (2010) 4.2, QTP. (2010) 4.2 auto, QTP. (2010) 4.7, QTP. (2010) 4.7 auto, QTP. (2011) 4.2 auto, QTP. (2011) 4.7 auto

Labour is an hour, but expect handbrake issues when they remove the rear discs so this could be an added cost.

Personally, I would use a local village garage for this job, is routine maintenance and don't see the point of paying through the nose for it.

Pattern discs can be had for £120 plus VAT each and OEM are double that each (228411) and the pads are £90 plus vat for the set or £275 for OEM plus VAT for the set (980139064)

So £400 plus VAT for pattern would be approx cost.

Thanks Conaero. I will get my friendly local garage to fit them. Would you personally go the pattern route or OEM?

Pattern. They are rear brakes and thus do very little of the actual breaking and the quality will be as good if not better than the OEM. Its the pads that you need to consider.

Personally, I go for Mintex or Ferrodo but accept these are not track pads. If I were using the car for track I would probably go EBC Yellow but don't be fooled into the other EBC pad/colours, the Ferrodo and Mintex will perform better and are much cheaper.

If I had to stick my neck out and choose one, I would go Mintex, they are a superb fast road pad.

MDB2112 but you need to check they are the correct ones, listed as QP 2004 onwards and they look narrower than the OEM pic below.

Just had mine done at The Super Car Rooms, I bought the parts from EuroSpares as below: -

2 x 221253 Rear brake disc (priced per disc) *jm 188.04ea £376.08
1 x 980139064 Pattern kit of rear pads £89.00
1 x 248418 Pattern hand brake shoe 68.00
1 x UPS Express EU 8.00
£ 541.08
VAT: 108.22
Total: £649.30

They charged £285 + VAT for fitting

Matt, I was advised that the hand brake cannot be set up on the QP without a SD3 or equivalent, they used a Leonardo diagnostics, as apparently there is no way to accurately reset the EPB

Just another comment, I was caught out by the Eurospares web site as according to my year these should have come in a lot cheaper by about £150, however when they checked the VIN they had to supply 2004-2007 parts for a 2010 QP???

I very much doubt a non standard garage without Maserati Diagnosi/SD3 can fit new discs with an EPB system like on the GTS but I am prepared to be proved wrong.

You are, chap.

Felice did mine. (And Matthew advised me that it was OK). New EPB *shoes* OTOH...

I have ES pattern discs and FD carbon-kevlar pads all round. I rate them.

What are the Eurospare pattern pads like? I will need to skim my front discs and put new pads on them and have noticed that Eurospares have some patterns in stock for far cheaper than OEM pads.

I expect to need new brakes soon - MOT next week, 2 year service in the summer. Probably go with Eurospares discs and pads. I spoke to Emblem about FD pads as I was about to pull the trigger in their Xmas sale. They advised that they would be quite aggressive on the discs and perhaps squeally as well. I'm sure it's a trade off though, between absolute stopping power and being kind to your discs. Catman - have you have any noise issues with the FD pads?

They have taken a while to settle in and I haven't been following Benny lately so can't say I have pushed, but they seem no different to what I had before.

Excellent..will give them a go. At that price it's worth a punt.

You really ought to use the SD3 to put the parking brake into service mode and then again to calibrate the the fitment of the new discs/shoes. It can be done without but I wouldn't recommend it (but I would say that!).

1 hour is also quite light on the timing front considering you need to remove the calipers and mess around with the handbrake shoes.

If you're buying the ES discs (which I recommend) then please degrease them and paint the bells and perimeter in a grey primer. Otherwise you'll end up with unsightly rust...

So noted :) EPB seems fine to me (but I would say that! My interaction with it involves pressing the 'Park Off' button before switching off the engine. Then pressing it again) :)

Nope, you said you doubted a garage without SD3 could change the discs. My car proves they can. OK, they may not have done it the right *way* but it seems fine :)

Same thing! Not advised so shouldn't be done :D

Totally sure Matt said it was fine, but my memory is not what it was ;)

<edit> just checked my records. It wasn't Matt but someone equally respected. I should probably stress the advice was 'as long as you don't change the shoes as well'
