Collected my 4.7 GTS from MOT station this afternoon. They had an Audi R8 in for a service at the same time.
Garage proprietor told me everyone who saw the 2 side by side said they'd take the Maser..
Form is temporary. Class is permanent.

Would'nt have an R8 about me, the tech is good but the form is an elongated TT and at the end of the day, still an Audi!

Will probably be banned but the R8 is on my hit list, the GTS is a top car but if faced with one or tuther, it would be the R8......,,I'll get my coat. :(

I was offered one as a courtesy car last year. Had it been the hard top, I probably would have done.

Maserati for me. Poles apart in all the important key areas... R8 just a technology exercise although the V10 does sound amazing with a Capristo WiFi exhaust.

R8 V10, fantastic, brilliant, German, soulless. GTS V8, fantastic, flawed, Italian, soulful. Sorry, what's the question?

I think we all know the answer to this...Benny has it spot on. I have a weird hankering for an R8 though but I guess mainly for the engine & package. Why oh why have Maserati got a direct rival & car in this area!

I had a TF 3.2 V6 Quattro S-Tronic & Benny's summary of the R8 applies the same as it does for most Audi's I have been in or driven. It was why I ditched the TT after a short tenure of boredom & got into a 987 3.2 Boxster S.....and no.....I'm not a hairdresser!

I have to say that i completely understand why someone would go for an R8, so long as it's V10 and manual. I had a pretty long test drive of one about a year ago (when I knew full well that I was going to buy another Maserati). It was such a delight to drive, and totally a supercar for the winter with the quattro. If I could have one as well as my GS Spyder, I quite possibly would (although I think an Evora would pip it)..

So yes, I like the R8, but still went for the Maserati, and still would do the same.

I almost bought one: tried three a V8, v10 and v10 Spyder. They were soulless, and Audi's. They do look good though, to be honest. You have to take the engine and gearbox out of the V8's to change the air con pump, which nukes it self every 10k miles. The mag ride shocks leak. Jus' sayin'.

Drove an R8 V8 all day along with Audi TTS. The R8 was ok but I preferred the TT drive.

Now if we are talking V10 then that's a different matter and would have it in a heartbeat.

R8 V8 looked nice and thought had been put into the interior but the drive was just, well, boring.

R8 is probably a better everyday car. A very useable sports car but probably not as special. Never driven one but been a passenger and it was a lovely piece of kit and I am not a fan of Audis. I wouldn't have one as a weekend toy but would for use everyday where as the GTS would be the other way around as the GTS is more of an event and special.

Had an R8 drive past us in Whitby at the weekend. Couldn't hear it. Seemed bland.

I wouldn't mind trying the v10.

Not sure I would buy one. I prefer my cars to be a bit more special. Though after driving one my opinions may be changed.

I had an R8 Spyder as a loaner when somebody reversed into my GS Spyder. Thought it was great for the first 24 hours. After that it was boring and I couldn't wait for them to take it away

Benny has it spot on, the Audi is a great car but just a bit boring. I find this to be true when comparing most German cars to their Italian equivalent they are perfectly functional but have no soul. No matter how the days has been I look forward to having something Italian to drive home that wasn't true when I had very special German machines waiting for me.

Supercars from mainstream manufacturers just don't work.
As a daily ride all year, but as a treat, nah.
