GTS MC shift Exhaust flap question

They close under vacuum pressure, hence why the car starts loud with the valves open and then quietens down as the vacuum kicks in. I didn't like that, so I unplugged the vacuum pipes and taped up the valves and the pipes so they stayed open all the time. Sorted!
