Folks

How easy is it to replace the small mesh bits on the GT front bumper? Can I buy them separately and is it just held on with nuts / washers type affair ?

If it’s come loose as mine did, I jacked it up, removed the undertray and hot glued it from behind...or was it the wheel arch liner?

It’s not loose just wanted to replace if possible, all that white on the photo is the coating stripped off.

Options are replace or try and fix in situ ?

Time to strip the bumper off

Just swapped mine

Factory stuff is rubish. It's glued on.

They appear to be bonded on, one of mine is loose and I hope to access bbt removing the undertray and rebound using either hot glue or something.

What a pain in the ***. I ain’t removing the bumper.

Wonder if a decent body shop would mask up and spray ? In fact wonder if I could, seriously.

I would imagine DIY masking and spraying is relatively simple and worth a go.

Yep, I have been watching mine slowly change colour over the years. Last autumn a pheasant tried to move into one of them at speed. It also popped out a parking sensor whilst pirouetting around. Good news is I could stick the sensor back on from behind given the mesh was partially off. Bad news is that mesh fixings partially broke but glued it back in place - okish. Will replace both (parts not too expensive) but looks like bumper off as others have said.

As an aside my rear parking sensors had packed up. Got the 4 Skoda new sensors and plastic grommets, painted the sensors up and just before fitting spring arrived and the sensors started working again - Italians!

I did mine when I sprayed my front bumper (thread here). They are clipped and bonded on and you'll probably damage them trying to get them off, so I sprayed them in situ.

Think I’m going to give this a go, will mask up and spray.

Any recommendation on prime first and then also what type spray to use?

I gave mine a wire brushing and wipe over with spirit, then sprayed with 2K primer and satin black from a gun. The original black is either satin or gloss so I'd just go with a high quality rattle can brand along with a grey primer. You might want to put something behind the grill before spraying though or you'll get overspray in there.

Been researching earlier and you’ve said exactly what I’d figured out. Grey primer and then a black of correct finish and even thought about some cardboard in behind!

Thanks for the guidance. Going to get cracking on this

Mine were matt black, and I used a brush after spraying some car paint into the lid. These grilles are going to get damaged by stones whatever you do so don't make a meal of it. I did mine over a year ago and they still look good.

Cheers gents. Will suss out how I want to go about it and then will post some job pics up.

Annoying they never foresaw that these would be sacrificial almost and not bond them in.

You ever get that feeling where you’re doing something, and for the first time, and you’re filling your pants that it’ll turn out ok
