GTECHNIQ UPDATE

Following on from my query about GTECHNIQ, I took the plunge and had my 2016 GT done: 'decontamination', full interior clean and disinfection, all body work and wheel faces GTECHNIQ Ultra ceramic coated, GTECHNIQ smart glass treated, engine bay cleaned, exhaust tips done. They also replaced the front grill which had lost a tooth when I dinged it into a tow bar (I supplied the new grill myself, so just labour.) £700 all in.

I'm delighted with the results. To the uninitiated, it looks showroom new :D! And feeling the texture of the paintwork is something else, so much smoother due to the ceramic penetrating the paint on a molecular level. WTF o_O. Would recommend them if you're thinking of getting it done - https://1080london.com/

What do you reckon?

That's half what mine was and I didn't have interior or wheels done, but I did have 2 stage polish.

That looks fab!

(Apart from the callipers, as they should be red ;))

The main cost of this job on most cars is in the time spent on paint correction, prior to the ceramic application. So in general, the older the car, the greater the cost.
My Strad was done over 2 years ago and still beads like it did on day 1.

That's the problem with poor eyesight. You get your colours all mixed up.

Everyone knows red is a heavier colour and therefor slows you down :)

To be fair, while it's a '16 plate, the car, which I bought from Dicky Grace, was in exceptionally good nick. Even the detailers were surprised at its condition.

I had done some business with them previously and I think they looked after me. Also no paint correction needed as car was already in great shape.

Looks great! And as others have said, seems a good price.
I've been pondering it all summer, well actually had it booked in, but not had it done yet due to various reasons.
Mine will need a correction though.

Slight thread drift here, as its not about GTECHNIQ, but another product Ceramic Pro 9H. Having done some research on this, I initially tried to apply a coating myself (not one of these two products) after doing the standard steps of iron out decontamination, clay barring, machine polishing etc. However I abandoned it after the first panel came out with petrol-like rainbow streaks (yes, not very pretty). So bit the bullet and had first my Audi A3 done, by this North London company (https://www.fawcustoms.co.uk/services/ceramic-pro-coating).

Very pleased with the result, so ploughed on, doubling the expenditure by getting them to treat my Coupe as well. Although a MY2006, the paintwork is pretty good, as the car has been garaged/off road in winter. The package included a Ceramic Pro coat plus final top coat, with wheels and windows also coated.

These pics show the car on the day I collected it, just prior to stashing it in the garage for a couple of weeks for the ceramic layer to properly harden. The downside of course is that it can no longer go to the local carwash, but will need to be (carefully!) washed by myself...

Very nice!

Out of interest - did you see them/take the car with you beforehand so they could 'prescribe' the best/recommended course of treatment?

I'd met them before and seen their work, but they hadn't seen the car before I booked it in. TBH the car was in great condition and he called me after his initial assessment with which I agreed - nothing needed on the interior, no paint correction. We spoke over the phone, I told him what I wanted and he 'prescribed' the Ultra, but said not to bother with the EXO coating. Happy to give you further details if you'd like.

When it hardens have a go with a wire brush and see if it heals itself. If it does I may interested as I was talking to an approved installer on Saturday. ;)

GTECHNIQ isn't self healing...as far as I'm aware - I could give it a go with a wire brush to check but......

You need the graphene based polymers for that. Or that 3M PPF film stuff I believe. The guy who did mine said the graphene product was really interesting and has huge potential, but he didn't feel the tech was there yet.

Ah thought you had carried on with 9h.
