GT Strad VS Ferrari

I can see a thread like this descending into an unintentioned Italian civil war. My question is really simple: why is a weight (and otherwise) optimized GT Strad slower 0-60 than a Ferrari of contemporary vintage (with a small engine even)?

Stradale is still a heavy car in relative terms and by no means a race car. Despite marketing and "forum" hype.
For example, a "standard" 458 is approx. 15% lighter yet has approx. 30% more power. Also, delivers more torque at lower revs through a dual clutch whereas the Stradale is single clutch. In short, if you want a sports car buy the Ferrari. If you want a GT buy an MC-Shift. All imho of course.

Hard to compare a 50k stradale with a 90k 458 really.
But a stradale is heavy, the big thing is you can seat 4 (except 2 seater! which I don’t really get the point of)
Acceleration and top speed are only a small part of the appeal, put it like this i’d rather have any old Ferrari than a newer much more expensive and v quick Tesla

Simple - because that‘s the way they were designed to be from the outset, at that time. The owning company wanted the Ferrari to be the outright speedster, and the Maser to be more the fast GT. As did the car’s buyers.

But at a financially equivalent level, a £50-£60k Strad is quicker than an equivalent value Ferrari (e.g. 456, 348, 355, 360). It has more power, more noise, better brakes, a more modern chassis, etc. Took mine for a blat today, in glorious sunshine on empty country roads (on essential medical business, of course...) and thoroughly enjoyed it. At no point did I think “I wish I was back in my old 456, 355, 360, etc”).

Obviously a 458 is at a different level in terms of speed, but it’s twice the price and way more common. Still nice though.

To be fair I am endlessly tempted by a 612. I have a QP V but due to family growing too big (!) I can get a crappy people carrier and upgrade the fun car. I like the GT and am a Maser Man but... temptation can be fatal. I really like the idea of a V12. We talk about a V8 almost nostalgicly...but a V12?!

I really like the 612 as well. Just scared of the big bills......and they will be big! :)

The Strad feels completely different to a GT MC Shift. It feels like a sort of race car version, the sound, suspension set up, just the whole feel. When revving the engine the whole car moves! It's brilliant!

I think 0-60 times start being meaningless sub 5 seconds.

If you want a fast 0-60 you can get numerous things faster than current Maseratis. A Vauxhal VXR8 may well be quicker!

The 2 seat Strad compares closest with the Ferrari 550. Similar size, weight, power, performance, price, the lot. It’s a close battle between them on the road, but if I could keep just one it would be the Strad. The Maserati looks better, that’s for sure.

The 4 seat Strad compares with the 612, as you say. Overall you’d have to say the Ferrari is the more accomplished, but again, I prefer the looks of the Strad.

The 612 certainly has the potential to throw up some frightening bills along the way, more so than the Maserati. It’s a tough call this one, but if I were choosing between the two, right now I think I just might give the Ferrari a go.

Plus a Strad can have 4 seats. Though obviously, that version’s not a “proper” Strad;)

And you can have a very good sounding V12 for c £30k. An early DB9 with 450hp is fantastic value and with a fsh, decent ones are now at this price as so many built (relatively about 16k I think in total) Volantes about 5k more if you want an open GT. Go scratch that V12 itch!

A more fair comparison than a 458 would be a California. The Cali is quicker for sure but not massively, the 30 was quicker and then the gen 2 much quicker. We all know that the Cali should have been wearing a trident badge.

Not sure yet. Didn't the ex-Chris Harris one sell this week for I thought fairly strong money? I'm sure he didn't drive it too hard either
One sold at auction for £73k recently (£80k with fees) so getting cheap now. The early cars seven year service plans have come to an end hence the price drop on MY12 cars.

But it would have not been putting that power out, correct? Probably stayed as the first gen Cali
