Just wanted to bring another issue with the headunit which I’m yet to find the root cause .

The date and time in the unit can not be changed no matter what I do , even taking battery off didn’t help.
It shows the menu fine and can I change the values , but when I select OK nothing happens . It shows a random time in the dash . And in the headunit it shows “- - -“ instead of time and date.
Tried it both with GPS setting enabled and disabled and no change . It shows the time in dash display incorrectly too.

Has anyone else faced this issue and managed to resolve ? Everything else works fine . The unit is Magneti Marelli

I’ve got exactly the same problem...
Thought I was going insane so glad to hear I’m not the only one!!

Anybody know what the options are to try to fix?

I think there is a software glitch , been trying to find a way to do factory reset but no luck , Maserati hasn’t been helpful either.
My assumption is the module/application that records and controls time is not able to receive the changes from user input or satellite sync , and is going based on some form of default time and date format.
Contacted Magneti Marelli but they said contact Maserati but I don’t have a local dealer close to me , and over phone there was no joy

I've a vague recollection that mine was synch with GPS time. The date I'd entered was incorrect and input failed to adjust time. If your unit has been off for a while allow sufficient time for GPS time acquisition. Or as in my case check that the day month year is correct

The issue is I can’t change the value for date and time , I’m able to change it in the menu and when I press okay it doesn’t save . GPS works flawlessly for navigation but it seems the time acquisition is not taking place . I drive the car few times a week . Left the battery disconnected for half an hour in case but made no difference

Both threads don’t seem to have a end result and more like assumptions . I personally doubt the issue is dash module. Personally I tend towards a software glitch controlling the module or the segment of the software . I will dig further and update you.

There is no reset of the NIT itself apart from reloading the software from a Maserati CD. I've tried to get one but they won't supply as they want to install at a dealership and charge £500 for the privilege. If the drive is on the way out it will fail eventually. The only way to fix it is do what I do and provide a brand new Hitachi Endurastar drive with a known working image.

Have you tried resetting the time with the engine off ie not running just key on?

Yep , no luck , I think the onboard battery removal would clear the memory and allows a reset of onboard EPROM . I was hoping to see a reset hole but probably it’s at the back of NiT

From a Peugeot forum.

There are two ‘official’ reset options for your RT3 car navigation system :
option #1 :
press the DARK-button until the screen goes black and the RT3 then restarts
Note : the DARK-button is not some mysterious unmarked button, it’s simply the button marked “DARK” that is normally used to darken the screen to not shine too bright at night

option #2 :
  • turn off your car and take the car key out
  • unscrew the Torx10-screws that are hidden inside the two tiny holes next to the “MP3” and “GSM” printed text (note : the screws don’t come out, the just come loose and stay inside the panel)
  • pull the menu-wheelbutton to slide out the ‘car radio’
  • flip open the metal lid that is just above the big barcode sticker
  • take out the yellow battery pack
  • unplug the white connector that is halfway the battery pack’s cable
  • wait one minute
  • plug the white connector back in, but the battery pack back, close the metal lid, slide the ‘car radio’ back in and tighten the Torx10-screws
According to the Peugeot mechanics, option #2 should work if option #1 doesn’t…
Good Luck !

Thanks Contigo for swapping out my hard drive, super job! Working like a dream now and has stopped freezing, the next few weeks should give it a good test out! The added bonus of 2017 maps is also a great benefit as I can now use the sat nav!

http://www.maseratinitrepairs.com/. Phil - good website, mate. Very slick. Well done. As a general point, it's just great to see yet another way in which this forum and its members are helping make the experience of owning a Maserati pleasurable, angst-free and affordable. Says the man who bailed for an Aston, but you know what I mean!
