So after my SSD didn't work I put an HDD in and that now doesn't work. Will strip it all back down when I get back South and try the Kapton tape in place to see if that fixes any grounding issues.

Oh dear Phil.

I'd dug out a little used Pata 40gbyte disk that i had in a USB enclosure and was just about to prep an exchange.

Is yours a connector issue or do we suspect that it isn't a disk issue but thermal issue with the board?

Honestly don't know mate. It worked fine with the SSD in for 6 months then started freezing etc so I put in a 30 GB HDD and that fixed it for about a month or two, heading to Brands last week, froze and never recovered. It's still in loop mode now, you can hear the drive spin up and then spin back down immediately. Annoying as feck as I thought I'd nailed it, will send the unit off to a company and get them to check it all over if I can't fix it. I need tunes in my car....

The whole NIT being checked or just the drive?

In any event, I'd really appreciate your findings, Phil.

It hasn't happened since touring France back in June and I've a feeling that it only occurs on my 2007/8 GT after a duration of about three hours. Im pretty confident that it's temperature related since it happens on hot days. It could be high temp, but I'm thinking that the air con is working hard and probably ducts near it, sub cooling and exacerbating a marginal track/joint on a board.

It's hugely distracting when driving when it starts. Nothing you can do until it finally reboots fully.

I've about three items on the snag list remaining, all fixable plus a few panel spray job (b*****y French key jobs, a French scrape on the rear bumper and the usual nose chips) and I'm debaging endlessly whether I swap her for a newer model or become married to this and invest in her as my long term keeper.

The market is working against me though, not one Blu Mediterane on tne market. Not bothered whether it's a 4.2, 4.7, or S, ain't bothered about MC dah did dah, just a nice blue GT. I like my discrete wheels with just the hint of the Trident too. So she's got a lot going for her and she's been thoroughly scrubbed at Dicks.

BUT, the NIT pi$$es me off, being a 2008, there's no Bluetooth or USB, trivial I know when I hardly ever switch on the sound.

If I could fix the reboot jssue I'd be happy

BT on the GranTurismo is **** so don't worry - useless above 40-50mph. Also the USB track listings and ordering are poor. At least you have the jukebox and can download CDs.

Just the very end pair, I doubt snapping both pairs off would hurt though. The metal is soft so be careful not to bend the normal pins in the process!

Hi

Just a question please, looking at the jumper settings for this drive ( see photo attached ), it seems that the two pins to cut off are the A and C, and leave D and B untouched.
Can you confirm this is how you have it on yours?
Thanks

Bluetooth on mine seems to work fine at at least 60mph.

You can tweak the naming of files on the USB and copy them over to the jukebox...but the media handling is decidedly "gen1".

Afternoon,

I've just joined this forum in the hope of finding a fix for a NIT unit that we have that is showing the same symptoms as many of you experienced. The hard drive is defective on the unit we have, to the point that it doesn't seem to be working at all. Temperature makes no difference. I've tried a reset etc, and the unit has been to Cartronics, who can repair the unit at a cost of £1500, but will still require software to be installed by a dealer.

Sadly, our local dealer have told us that the software isn't available unless we purchase a new unit - but even then they say they've experienced issues with new units.

My main question is, does anyone have the software saved on their computer, ready to be installed into a hard drive? We (Simon Furlonger Cars) are happy to pay for this to be done, as it's preventing the sale of a car at the moment, and any saving over the dealer quoted £5000 for a new unit would be amazing. we are able to deliver the unit anywhere in the South East by hand, or it can be shipped if necessary.

My only other finding is possibly the use of a Peugeot unit (one of our dump cars is a 407 with the same unit) and writing the software onto that? I'm going to try swapping fascias etc tomorrow.

Thanks in advance, Chris.

Chris - I've done this to my GTS. Installed a new hard drive loaded with my original software. I can do this to your NIT and test it in my car if you wish.
Send me a pm and we can sort something out. I'm based in Poole.

Moz, that’s good news, I never knew it was doable. I’d be interested to know how, but luckily I don’t have the issue on any cars at the moment. I’m sure Chris will be delighted to hear this.

I've got a disc as well, but have been a little cautious trying it as it's not entirely impossible that it *could* brick a working unit. I've been trying to get a broken NIT to test on. If we can ensure that any software will work on any NIT, we can make a standard image available, either on a HD or to download and clone onto a new drive for installation.

And you can use faster, bigger SSD drives. Although there is at least one case where the problem has recurred after replacement.

As per discussions Chris I'm still of the opinion a one-size-fits-all image will be fine - except for the SatNav maps. Am quite certain the NIT ID will be written to a file created during the map install process. If the correct ID is not present in this file the map data won't be read. That's not to say this file couldn't be created once an image (including maps) has been loaded. Certainly this method works for stand alone SatNav. I would also suggest older NITs "may" struggle with later edition software versions - which itself will probably dictate which map version can and can't be used. Reading the other thread the use of a Peugeot NIT sounded very interesting - in that map updates for Peugeot are issued a lot more frequently. I'd be curious to see what version software could be loaded and made fully functional and with what version maps, regardless of manufacturer, as the map data is readily available. As you say though getting access to a.n.other NIT seems to be a stumbling block.

Neil and I have spent some time discussing this, and he's almost certainly correct :) The ting is the risk may be low but the impact is significant :)

Anyone know a busted NIT?

Catman, thanks for the input. I've a dead one here. If I can get it sent to you, would you be willing to experiment with it? If there is any way of replacing the hard drive and writing software to it, that would be amazing.
