Good evening all,
We are looking to replace a standard exhaust for a GT, any ideas anyone please?
Thanks

Which GT? 4.2? Larini...

4.7? Larini....

Start at the back and work your way forward. Valves boxes best bet...

Hi Phil, Yes, the 4.2. Its currently standard and would like it to sound more like the 4200 :)
Thanks

Define 'performance' If you can measure any real gains [1], I'd be incredibly surprised. Of course, you can make it sound loads better :)

C
[1] Greater than that, for example, engendered by having a full tank of petrol or, heaven forfend, a passenger :)

'Performance' was probably the wrong word. Perhaps I should have said 'how can we make the GT sound like the 4200? :)
The 4200 has an X pipe with 200 cell cats if that helps?
Thanks

As the estimable Phil says: Start at the back and work forwards. I have valved rear boxes on mine and an FD valve control kit. Happy man :D

For what it’s worth, I had the 4.2 and very much like you wanted to fit something that freed up that lovely v8 sound.
I bought the OEM MC Corsa exhaust (the one fitted on the 4.7 MC) and because I didn’t fit the after market valves controllers, they ended up always being open.
The sound although fantastic was just too loud and obnoxious to be a daily driver and hearing this ALL the time. I did this for 12months and probably lost some hearing capacity :)
If I was to do it again, I would go for the same exhaust if the car was just a week end toy, and would go Larini X or H pipe for a daily driver.
My 2p

I think that’s the way to do it if you want the MC exhaust!!

The only issue is that the valves open all the way all the time. At very low revs, it's great. Pulling away from roundabouts etc not so much. Above 3.5k ish: Utterly divine!

Hold on, are you saying the FD valve kit doesn’t close the valve below 3500 rpm?

Correct.

Well for the absolute avoidance of doubt, I think it's unlikely. I've not been able to get a camera far enough up to check, but it would certainly account for the difference in sound between mine and a GTS

I see. I bought those from FD when I bought the OEM MC exhaust but never ended up fixing them on. I keep the valves open all the time; to the great despair of my then neighbors

Larini is open all the time on the clubsports... Not sure on the others. I know that on the MC Shift they are open gradually depending on revs in SPORT mode. Open fully over around 3K rpm.... Strad in RACE mode open all the time....
