Very nice. I can see why you will be sad to see it go. Good luck with the sale. Hopefully you will be back in the trident fold soon.

Thanks chaps ...

The plan is to get myself into a GTS as soon as I can afford one - hopefully within 6 months. Once bitten, forever smitten!

Slightly off topic, but why blank out the registration plate on your advert?

I'm not shopping for a GT, but when I go car shopping - usually for cars <£10 never mind close to 30k, I find it really puts me off. I wonder what the seller is hiding, as it seems they don't want a HPI check run on the car...
The first thing I do with any car I'm interested in now is stick the plate and make into the DVLA MOT website to see if it's recently had a fail (which tells me what's recently been fixed) or a warning (tells me what I might need to have fixed, or ask about).

I mean no offence to you, I just feel that anyone walking along the street where the car is parked, or that see it when parked, or that you drive past can see the plate anyway...

Fantastic looking car by the way, good luck with the sale :)

Any criminal eliment who wants to clone a car for whatever illegal plan they have in mind can easily go on autotrader or ebay and find a matching car / colour combination and clone the reg plate if it isnt blocked out.

It is less likely on certain cars due to their rareity. However it is still happening every week up and down the country.

Fuel thefts, ram raids, bank raids, drink drivers, uninsured drivers all have reasons to clone your registration on to a matching car.

If somebody is interested in the car then they will enquire further and obtain the registration and do the hpi and mot checks.

Blocking out the registration on the pictures just makes it a little harder for the keyboard criminals.

Yep what Kenny says, anyone who wants my reg no. is welcome to ask, but not a good thing to blatantly advertise it for the scum to clone.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the compliment - she is a beauty!

For me, with this type of car, it's more about knowledge of the address of the registered keeper. For some organisations, for a meagre £2.50 fee, it's possible to do a DVLA check on a registration number to identify the keeper and address. I fear that the sophisticated criminal may also be able to access that information, and I don't want to run the risk of a hit on my address.

I promise, I have nothing to hide!

But surely the cloners can get one's reg whilst the car is being driven around!?

Yes but it's just that bit more inconvenient. Depending on what the car is you may not just be able to wander past one. I don't know the address of my nearest grey\beige GT for instance.

Why go out looking for a matching car to clone which could take hours or days depending on the car when you can do it in under a minute on your phone or from the comfort of your house without moving out of your seat.

Its just an extra security measure to make it more difficult for the scum bags that do this kind of thing and indeed make a living out of it.

Some dealers do it as well. They put on a plate with the dealers name on it to take the pictures.

If i had a stolen black 2007 Petrol mondeo hidden away and i want to make it appear legal. A quick search on autotrader would reveal 100's of matching cars to clone a reg from. Since the tax discs are now defunct then its now even easier. The stolen car can be driven past any police vehicle or tax evasion cameras and it appears to be taxed and insured and legally driven.

No tax disc on the screen to check the reg against so unless its being driven by a bloke when the car that is legit is only insured for a woman to drive then there is nothing visual to give the car away without checking the vin and engine numbers. Sadly it is all to easy to do.

Thanks for the replies, that all makes sense. I'll try to un-bias my opinion next time I'm car shopping ;)

Sorry to derail your sale thread!!

Lol thread derail! Good luck with the sale but be patient!

I am amazed mine hasn't gone and agree with you that a forum car is as good if not better than a dealers car.
