GT.....but 4.2 or 4.7?

As you all know, I am in the market for a GT.
probably a stupid Q but is there a big difference in sound between them? For background info, I came to Maserati after seeing a top gear episode years and years ago with a QP 4.7 and the sound just blew me away, as it did JC at the time!
My point is I've been looking at what is around and the combos for 4.7 at my budget of sub 25k are......well, limited to black largely. Now I don't expect to see a green GT for sale but the colour choice only seems to widen at 4.2 so does a 4.2 sound as good or would I be always yearning?

You will always be yearning. I’ve had both and the noise in the 4.7 is miles better. I’m not sure about the earlier ones but mine (2014) is more torquey as well.

Wrap? Wasn't there that horrendous "army" green GT a while ago.
Perhaps something more subtle would be befitting.

I may be biased but I held out for a 4.7. I compromised on the colour for the best one owner low miles car I could afford.

my father now wants to change his 08 4.2 to a '13 or later 4.7 after driving mine, for 3 reasons:
1.... the sound
2.... the car feels lighter with more power.
3..... the phone connects

The 4.2 sounds just the same than the 4.7 when fitted w an MC corsa exhaust (a few laying around occasionally for £1k on eBay). Obviously power / ability to turn the loud exhaust on/off, similar insurance prices ... are fundamental reasons why a 4.7 still makes more sense - especially given the £5k-ish difference in cost.
Depreciation wise, the 4.7 won’t cost you more than a 4.2 - comes resell time, you will recup your premium over a 4.2. And obviously it’ll be easier to shift as well.

If you have the budget go for a 4.7.

Im putting more and more 4.7 bits on my 4.2 and all of them are improvements. I have no regrets (budget didnt allow a 4.7 since the nearest 4.7 was about 8k more then the 4.2 i bought).

All confirmed what I thought, guess I'll need to probably compromise getting black to stop any yearning. TY all.

There’s only 1 car to buy imo.
4.7.
I drove a 4.2 and it’s a totally different car... soft.
4.7 is a much more advanced prospect than just the sound. Special.
Save up -plus depreciation in the market will bring you one sooner than you think.

I agree with Wattie, (a first! ;)). The GT needs those extra cc and bhp as it's a bigger car. As the 4.7 developed it increased its power to 460bhp in the 2013 onwards Sport and Stradale versions.

Sound would depend on the exhaust. A 4.7 auto with standard quad tail pipea sounds almost identical to a 4.2 auto.

Howere the 4.7 MC and Sport with the S pack, followed by MC Autos sound far better.

But if you want some colour in your GT you may struggle with the 4.7.

4.7 auto has a valved exhaust irrespective of pipe shape so sounds a lot different to a 4.2 when they open.

FWIW 4.2 is not that slow. If you want an auto then I would consider it at the right price. If you want the automated clutch gearbox then of course it’s different.
