GT 2008 White Screen of Death

Hi all,

I have had the car for over 12 years now and it has entered its 15th now, and it's still turning heads. :)

Sadly I have encountered the White Screen of Death on the Nav Display; it doesn’t even get to the Logo. Reading various posts here I presume I need a replacement HDD or a new Head Unit.
Where is the HDD located please? Is it part of the Head Unit or elsewhere?

The CarPlay or Android Tocuh units look very tempting. I am firmly entrenched in the Android world - I'd appreciate any feedback on any Android solution (Aucar?) experience.

Thanks,

Ian

Get the Apple/Android screen fitted that folk on this forum rate - should cost about £1k and I believe it works on dead nav/radio systems. Then use Waze.

I've got an Aucar 2.1 headunit and AC controls.

Let me know if you have any questions (feel free to PM)

It looks good, sounds good and works well. It's not perfect, but even an OEM unit wouldn't be...

I’d never even heard of the Aucar head unit, looks interesting At the very least.

Why is it not perfect?

It's a bit annoying not having a volume knob

Sometimes "audio focus" doesn't play nice (eg maps navigation pauses music, then it doesn't auto play again).

I installed a DAB unit (usb) and a proper mic which is mounted kind of behind the down shift paddle. Now the radio works well and phone calls seem great

The Aucar dev team are good though, always available on WhatsApp to help

I would say the steering controls work well. Volume etc. The button behind the wheel doubles as a home button, so it sends you back to the main launcher screen so it is easy to navigate

I think if we're talking of the same chap, after talking to him, it wasn't a failing disk, and despite fixing numerous NIT with disk sector failures for members, he like myself sourced a relatively new one from the USA, and is now content.
Happy to help anyone suffering difficulties

I have the problem with "white screen" on the navigation unit and planned to change the HDD for a new one but my program cannot read/create an image file of the old HDD from the car. Probably a bad disk.

Does anoyone still have a working image file for a 2007 GT?

Thankful for all help I can get :)
