Was browsing autotrader the other day and noticed that GS prices seem to have fallen off a cliff.

Anyone hazard a guess as to why?

Its February, its Brexit, the whole supercar market is in decline and yes, possibly the GTS not helping.

Stick it out, they will return.

Really?

Almost to a man the ones on AT have been for sale for c12m + which if you consider how well DG shifts them at top dollar indicates that the cars in question are less than perfect.

I have inquired as to the 'full service history' on two of them which is a great indicator of care and value... sadly five stamps in a book is not the 12+ each of these cars should have.

Additionally high cluch wear or no record of such along with 'Its due a service now' makes them very hard to shift unless you price them well south of a sorted car.

I would be more attuned to Dickys valuations and as can be seen they are worth more than a GT if a good one.

No intention of selling mine, it’s always good to know that if you do decide to sell, it still has some value!

I'm not sure prices have fallen off a cliff. The demand for clean, well-specced, low mileage, good history cars with good reputable independent maintenance is always present - be it for a GS or a Porsche Turbo. Yes, there is a general softening in prices but I'd not describe that as falling over a cliff

Ok perhaps the statement was a little dramatic!

Likewise 4200's have dipped but a lot of the cars on the lower end of the market look very tired. Saw. Sub 10k car on the market with amongst various other issues a broken centre console and leaking main oil feed line... Forget what's lurking underneath... Balls to straightening all that out!

I thought this an interesting test of the market. On the face of it a nice looking car which finished wrong side of £20k. It’s an auction, poorly described and you would need to see condition etc. but still.

V8 Vantages seem to be heading in the same direction and I’m curious to see where cooking Porsches from the same era go (more transactions to reveal where the market is at once confidence goes).

Hopefully any market softening is temporary, as otherwise I have, once again, bought into a market at the absolute peak.

I saw the GS Spyder advertised in the latest edition of the Maserati Club newsletter, and it is a very lovely looking car...

The GS is stable in price. The GT continues to depreciate. This GS Spyder is a superb example. Buying into a clean good low mileage GS is not a depreciation ride. Dont see it as an investment - keep it in tip top condition and miles low (such as a summer 2-3k annual mileage car) and it'll hold value.Dont skimp on anything at service - follow any good indy if he advises items at service. Key is never ever cut corners or skimp on anything.

The real equation here in relation to TCO is whether keeping the GS in the tip top condition you mention will be less than the depreciation on the GT........

Same with the limited build old 3200's although nice ones are a lot rarer

A mate of mine has his lovely 3200GTA for sale on eBay, spent 24k on it, and still no punters!
