GS Died on the diveway

All seemingly well & was serviced & checked by Shiltech last week.

Drove home from work just 4 miles & the car died at my gate. The electrics all seem to work & turns over well but just wont start.

Feels a bit like the footbrake is on, no power steering - but guess this because engine not running.

Will look it over tomorrow as it got dark on me, but no trace of fluids on the road or underneath.

Any ideas of what to check?

Thanks

Try slamming the brake pedal hard. Then start up.
The brake pedal sensor may be on the way out and the car has a "no brakes, no go" feature.
I have experienced this.

Out of fuel or handbrake has been over adjusted or collapsed, jack the rear wheels up with the handbrake off in neutral, chocked of course and see if they spin freely.

Hmmmm… plot thickens
Yes it was a bit like running out of fuel - but has 1/4 tank
Just went out to try booting the break but noticed it was normal again - the car just started. Forward & reverse a few times, fine. Off n on a few times fine. Then wont start again - does occasionally fire with a thump but not start. Break pedal quite rigid again.

Shiltech did say that the handbrake pads need replacing because travel is high n worn…

Brake pedal is rigid because there’s no vacuum in the servo. Don’t worry about that. Could still be the brake switch.

Did they change the air filter and/or are you running a BMC aftermarket filter?

Hope it's not the clutch sensor. Friend had his spyder die at a set of traffic lights near his home.

no air filter not changed. history suggests was changed Jan last year for standard filter.

Will look at brakes - was easy to push though

Be worth replacing the crank position sensor as they are quite a common failure / cranks but fails to start problem.
needs plugging in to really know.

Was it just a normal service or was any other work done - if there was it might be worth checking over that

Checked & wd40 the break switch (& bought another) plus I turned the battery on & off for good measure and it got me to work. Once at work the central locking was not working although doors lock with physical key. Its like a clown car! I’m sure with some more turning off n on I’ll get central locking back. Main issue - will check all relays & fuses tomorrow
Service was just a standard one plus health check (have asked if they plugged in a reader…) with no work done
Crank sensor - does the failure of this happen as you are driving & remedy itself after 10 mins?

Im sure my issue is electrical somewhere… just the fault is worrying, dying as I’m driving yet with all the electrics seemingly on…

What do Shiltech say I'm sure they would be straight there to take a look and get it sorted ?

They are 1hr20 away from me so not local. This only happened after the service and they were not looking for any issues related to this. Sent an email yesterday to see if they put it on a reader or not. Doing the reset & checking the simple stuff this morning

Would have thought so as part of the service to check clutch wear etc

Shiltech confirmed no codes (yes they did look at clutch wear so would see any faults.) - though now I would like to have the codes read after the cut out...
No water in passenger footwell - checked fuses n fuse boxes & no sign of water/corrosion
Would it throw a fault if the crank sensor is to blame?
Will be going in to have handbrake shoes replaced so will read faults then & go from there (if it behaves unitil then!)

Now key trouble...
Turned battery on today to do the reset - the key wouldnt work central locking so activated the alarm - did the reset anyway with the alarm & hazzards flashing as I sped around country lanes.
Key will remote open the boot but not central locking
Had to remove the fuse to the alarm so i can drive the car (this stops the key remote from opening the boot..)
Tried double clicking ket etc but wont remote open/lock
Turned battery off for 5 seconds & double clicked, started etc but still no remote central locking from the key - but battery still ok as it will open boot & worked fine until battery cut off....any ideas?
