Had a jaunt down south to see a friend this weekend. Car was great.

On the way down (from Middlesbrough to Tilford, near Farnham) was in no hurry so cruised most of the way, averaged around 50mpg, relaxed driving.

On the way back, took it a little faster, averaged 73 over the 250 odd miles from filling up in Reading at a very impressive 45 mpg. I know the computer reads a little high but at worst it would have been 47 and 43 ish...

Oh and with the front wheel off you can easily fit a road bike in the boot with the seats folded down.

The seats fold down?

That's just wrong on the mpg. That said I can get 30+ at 70 ....

Yes, there is a leather tab on the seat back, just pull that. As far as I know its standard? They don't fold flat but its very helpful in getting large items in.

That's great MPG, if I try really hard in the 4200 I can get it down to 8mpg.

once on another forum a guy was moaning because the mpg on his focus diesel had dropped to 59.9 so he'd be trying his hardest to get it back to 60 over the weekend, I posted i was disappointed my mpg on the impreza had risen to 22 and i'd be doing my best to get it back under 20

having said that it was my only car, I couldn't handle the mpg of a 4200 as a daily so a diesel does make sense if you're doing the miles

I dare not look at my MPG for the trip I am on "ragging it" around the Alps and making sure the MC shift - exhaust valves and Petrol Guage work - and they do, a lot!!
