GranTurismo windscreen replacement

Hi folks.

Woke up this morning to find a 12inch crack on the windscreen of my 2013 gt sport - doesn't it just break your heart when you find that first sign of damage on your new baby.

Anyway - has anyone had to replace a gt windscreen? I dread to think what it's gonna cost. Obviously keen to do this as cost effectively as possible. I expect the MD's will sub out fitting so will cut out the middleman if possible. Can anyone recommend a good fitter in the southeast? Any ideas what this will cost me?

(I know most insurance policies cover this, but mine doesn't. Insurance is thru my firm and no glass cover is one of the ways we keep the costs down)

Thanks in advance
L.

You may be re-visiting that decision. A couple of the guys had their screens go at Bruntingthorpe last year. I can't bring myself to state what I *think* I remember the figure was.

Hi L

Before I brought my 2011 GTS it needed a new screen and was told cost was c£3000. It is a two day job as all the interior trim needs taking out the screen needs to cure overnight and then the trim reinstalled. MD or Maserati specialist job.

That's in line with what I recalled.

I had mine replaced as the last job on my extended warranty s it was de-laminating a tiny bit at the top ( Just shows the 4/5 year warranty truly is bumper to bumper!).When I enquired what it would have cost out of my own wallet the techy said it would quite likely make my eyes water...so I didn't ask.

Paul of Glasstec.....

http://www.glasstecauto.co.uk/

is a very good friend of mine and a genius when it comes to vehicle glass replacement. He recently replaced the ridiculously curved front screen of my Hawk Stratos replica prior to its sale. He has vast experience in high end glass replacement and I recommend him wholeheartedly and without reservation.

Lump in my throat. I guess most of the time insurers would pay though?

Can you remind he how much another two years Maserati warranty will cost? Mine three year one runs out in the summer.

I believe the previous owner renewed in 2011 at around £3500inc vat. I got the car with the last 6 months remaining, and I then had the screen done ,and loads of interior trim prices renewed that were peeling. If the car is a keeper, then deffo' money well spent, especially as its transferable to a new owner.

Ta. I've not had peeling leather in 2.5 years and 20k miles. Maybe some of the later cars are better?

I've had peeling vinyl around the dashboard this summer - I suspect due to the heat - and am currently looking at getting it retrimmed as a result.

Latest update - best MD price I can find is £1600 (supply, fitting, vat). Screen alone is £1000............eye watering but not quite as bad as expected.

Now to argue the toss with the insurer!

Will let you know how it goes.

Thanks but nope - euro spares wanted £970 plus vat for oem IIRC, and around £680 plus vat for pattern. Oddly MD was cheaper than anyone else.

Got mine done at Autoglass through my insurer, 75 quid excess and not counted as a claim. They said it was more involved than usual and to take it in to their workshop rather than doing it mobile but it took them 4 hours and I can't see the difference. I don't know where the horror stories about how long it takes and what's involved come from but I've had a close look at mine and I'll be damned if I can see any difference. Credit to Autoglass in Salisbury I reckon.

You must have found a decent fitter, Mark. I've heard some horror stories about Autofarce with the more unusual cars. From memory Loz had windscreen and side window issues with them and ended up having everything done at HR Owen.

At the end of the day it's my insurers problem if it happens. If the work is not up to standard then they would have to do it again.
