Thanks for the reply mate. Basically what's happened with mine is the bolt that holds the clutch on sheered off and the clutch fell off. I still have the clutch, but don't know if I can get a new bolt and fit it back on? Is this what happened to yours?

It seems unlikely to me that the bolt would have sheared unless something was stopping it rotating, putting strain on it. Does the compressor shaft still rotate freely? Seems most likely that it seized or partially seized and the bolt sheared because of that to me.

In my case the compressor was working fine but there was a rattling sound coming from the pulley bearings and (suspected) bolt loosening. A new clutch set was installed (https://www.sportsmaserati.com/inde...-ac-compressors-saving-££££.35370/post-931690) and I believe that the garage installed a new bolt as well. I wonder other your bolt has loosened and fallen off or sheered off? If it sheered off, the bolt thread would be left behind and the compressor workings themselves may well have seized (as per Zep's post). If the latter then repair is not possible. If the former (bolt loosened and fell off), then repair may be possible (in which case, your garage will need a new bolt and the correct shims to ensure the clutch is at the right distance from the pulley whilst it is not engaged).

If you need a new compressor, then I understand two forum members have had success with a replacement one from Compressor Express (http://www.compressor-express.co.uk...x-4.2-v8-sport-gt/ferrari-maserati-01-cvc-pv6).

Is the 159 mirror a bolt on item or will it need modification? My driver mirror is loose (unit not glass) and vibrates at speed.

It may be different, but I put up with my 1st 4200s mirror unit vibration for 3 years until I found that it was just down to a loose screw on the underside. 1 turn and it was sorted... then I sold it!

Can you not just tighten the fixing bolts up ? I think its on 3 studs / bolts. If the whole unit is moving it should be those that are loose. If its the fitting inside the mirror that holds the glass that is vibtrating then you may be able to repair once you take the glass off.

Been tried a while back by SI. I guess as it was a London car it has had lots of folding action or been clobbered a lot. It the whole unit the moves. Has quite a bit of play in it.

Recently had a car in with a broken heater in one glass. I bought a blue, heated Alfa 159 glass off eBay but it was not dimming (you can’t get a 159 with that) so, the heater pad came separate as did the mount. I ended up removing the failed heater off the GT one, fitting the heater pad and the mount and voila it all worked!

You do have to take the exact positioning of the mount from the old one. I traced it and used as a template. £359 saved.

I was thinking the mount on the door not glass. I wondered if 159 just bolted in place and I change over the mirror cap.

Ah that is interesting - the heater element has died in my passenger side mirror. There's a foggy line across the bottom of the glass which I was advised had something to do with oil. I wasn't looking forward to spending £££ on a piece of small glass

That'll be the liquid crystal from the auto-dim

I don't ever remember either of mine auto dim. I have never liked it anyway. More difficult to see the rozzers at night.

I'm in the process of doing similar on both my door mirrors - neither demist, but have 12v supply when rear screen turned on, and are both open circuit with a multimeter. I've bought some generic heating pads from AliExpress (actually bought 2 sets in case I make a b*lls of the first attempt - cheap at around £6 a set!). Drivers mirror off car; template for refitting mounting bracket drawn; heating pad removed successfully; new pad border trimmed appropriately. Next step is to clean residual adhesive from back of mirror, then attach new self-adhesive pad, then secure bracket using sikaflex. All being well, should be done by tomorrow. Will keep you posted.

And the results are good! All done, with bracket fixed with double sided tape stuff (used for attaching number plates etc.) rather than sikaflex. Figured that if needed I can reattach with sikaflex at a later stage. And they were done in time for the overnight frost yesterday morning, so I know they work - warm to the touch, and properly frost melted / demisted. Reckon I saved around £700 for a couple of hours effort. Happy days.
