Sell one of the others....
That had occurred to me. It's a bit of a first world problem. I wouldn't be overly concerned if I keep the Granturismo. I just start to have logistical fun and games with the number of cars I have. They're all very lovely things, but I won't be returning to a regular commute.

Hello Lavazza and all, I saw your ad yesterday on Pistonhead and noticed this post shortly afterwards. I have 3 cars in my bucket list: Ferrari 355 manual but not in my budget currently, a 997.1 C4S manual with a engine rebuild from Hartech, and a Granturismo S the most beautiful in my eyes.
I have kept an eye on 997s for the last 18 months, but could not find one with the right specs and engine rebuild and now the prices are sky-rocketing. I always had the GTS in the back of my head but was afraid by the famous Maserati reliability. However, I saw your car which looks beautiful and I am very tempted, also now I am reading all the positive comments from the members which show that the car must be a very good example and that you are a real enthousiaste who is taking very good care of his car.
I live in London and would use the car as a weekend car in addition to a few weekly school runs. Could you give me your advice on a MC Shift for my city utilisation and share your knowledge on reliability and what to expect in the next 5 years (I am looking for a keeper to stay in the family, perhaps for my children eventually).
As It was said in the comments, I believe that making the effort of travelling to find the right car is normal and it is not an issue for me.
Thank you very much for your help.

I don't do much city driving, but my thoughts are that the MC shift should be viewed in much the same way as a car with a conventional manual gearbox. Clutch life will be influenced by how you drive the car. For example, I tend to put the car in neutral if I'm sitting at a junction; pull away in 1st (when the car might otherwise be in 2nd), lift off the accelerator slightly when changing, and drive in manual sport (rather than auto).
On reliability, I think the Granturismo is pretty good, especially if used regularly. It is a fairly exotic V8 though, so it's not a cheap car to run, but I've owned a lot of cars and for me, I've found it no worse to run than (for example) an Aston Vantage or Porsche GT3.
Others on the forum might offer their own perspective and experience.

I haven’t bought a car locally for years. I find if you have to travel it makes you do your homework/investigation more thoroughly. Having said that I once travelled from Norwich to Torquay and the car was an absolute dog. Bought my Ghibli from Sheffield which is the closest for a long time at an hour away.

I should be telling you how **** the MC Shift is as I think I am also after Lavazza's car and I am also London based. :0037:
However, I was very impressed with the MC Shift from my 20 miles drive on Friday in a London based car, which included crawiling along the A1M, some spirited B-roads and some town driving. I find it better in Auto mode than my SMG-ed M3, which has been set up to a tee, with CSL software. In full attack mode, the SMG is marginally quicker and more brutal, but I don't think the Maserati's brief was to tear around the Nurburgring.

All in, the MC Shift is a great piece of kit, provided it's set up properly and you drive it as a manual car, without expecting it to be PDK/DKG/DCT.

Dark blue, well maintained 4.7 Granturismo is never going to hang around long, unless well overpriced. Which this one isn’t.

You’re going to miss it though!

Further to the announcement from the Prime Minister this evening (14 June), and the latest information on the delay to Step 4 of the roadmap out of lockdown, we are writing to update you on what this means for visitors to the Goodwood Estate.

As you may be aware, the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard, is planned to take place from 8 - 11 July.

The UK Government has announced there will be a further series of pilot events as part of the Events Research Programme (ERP) over the next four weeks. We are in discussion with the Government and public health authorities to finalise the details with regard to the Festival of Speed. We are expecting more information on the pilots to be announced later this week, at which point we will be able to confirm the next steps for this year’s event.
