Gransport stock X-pipe vs. Coupe Resonator

Loz,

I don't see what you are talking about, but it makes sense that it would look identical but without a resonator....probably not the most efficient design, but certainly cheaper for manufacturer.

My car was a leased and bone stock example, except that previous owner did a hack job trying to get an IPOD connection to the factory radio using off the shelf wiring, so something tells me that they didn't have such "vision" to remove the resonator on the centre section before doing something to the mufflers or CATs first. Honestly, it's not a natural starting point for someone looking to upgrade their exhaust.

Also, I am sure that the guys in the US, including Jeff, can tell between a straight pipe and a resonator...keep checking the US thread I posted on MaseratiLife to see the feedback to my post. Some already described it in words before I posted.

If you can prove otherwise, please let me know because it will have an impact on my decision on what to do next.

I think the resonator is just a shroud that surrounds the pipe as in its fitted around the existing pipe rather than having any inner baffling , i'll check with David at Larini on Monday, my centre section and boxes are still down there , really must get him to ship them back up here

Ok, I have just held it up to the light, and had a peak through. You can see as plain as day how it is constructed. The UK centre section, does indead have a baffle round it, and then the X pipe is drilled maybe 200 times in each pipe, releasing the gasses into the outer baffle.

So to sum it up, if one was to remove the outer baffle from around the UK sped X pipe centre section, it would look exactly the same as the US version, but look like a teabag underneath.

Did I get this right - the EU version is more silenced that the US? If so:

****!!! I was thinking of getting the crosspipe (US speak), but I like my present sound very much. Could go for one or two more "pops" when downshifting, but other than that - I'm fine!

Hi Folke,

The de-cats will get you there and you will feel the tangible difference in torque and even smoother gear changes during wide open throttle.

Once you do that, you will hear a difference too. Given you have the resonated centre section, you may hear fewer crackles/pops. In which case you can always go for the X-pipe from Larini which is not a big $$$ in the grand scheme of things.

Based on what you have / want I would go for the de-cats, which offers the most tangible gain in performance but without sacrificing too much in terms of daily driveability (i.e. mega sound).

Good luck!

Thanks JP, but I wouldn't dare skipping the cats - the local MOT/DMV would fail me even before I got in the door :-( What I would like to do do is hollow out the primaries and go for a sports cat (that would be a Larini...) But that's a project for next winter...

David at Larini will do that Folke , they cut a hole in the primary cats , remove the material that is prone to break up , and weld it back over, then worth having relevant 200 400 600 cell sports cats fitted , dependant on what your local Mot requirements are thats a good way to go , tho i cant remember where they link up the Lamda's maybe into the sports cats

David was even talking about manufacturing the headers in stainless steel, i might give him a ring to see whether they are still going to go down that road
