Your voltage dial on the dash is reading about 12.5, which is approximately what your tester/reader in the boot says. So all is fine, both with the battery and the dashboard.

Yes you are correct, guess it depends if it rises when the engine is running.
You are aways super critical when you buy a new 'old' car though!

It was showing less than this when I started it that morning which is why I wasn't panicking. Plus, the pic of the gauge was taken with the engine running, so it should be showing 13.7 - 14.2 volts.

Congrats on the purchase by the way. Lovely colour.

Was this the Bianco Fuji GS that was for sale in Devon for ages? If not, did you go to see that one?

Thanks. No, not been to see that one, bit too far - 600 mile round trip...

I mentioned a gearbox oil leak earlier in the thread, which has resulted in some further investigation being undertaken over the weekend;

All seems good up front, it has the "right" exhaust manifolds for a start.

Moving to the back of the car...

A leak from the diff oil seals would be consistent with the evidence, the brace between the exhausts was liberally coated in gearbox oil;

But the seals are dry;

It seems to be coming from above the rubber bung in the pic below. There are some actuators up there but I don't think they're the cause and I do think it is gearbox oil.

I was seriously hungover at the time so I didn't get to far into it, I just topped the gearbox oil up with 3-400ml (apparently it takes 3l) of 75/90 and I'll look into later when I've finished rebuilding the other car's engine.

Alternator charge to the battery should be over 14v, 14.5 preferably so I would suspect the alternator. Saying that the gauges arnt that reliable.

She looks lovely. Check the brass nut to the bottom of the oil tank for leak/cracking. In the OS front wing. Known issue.

There's varying advice on alternator output but the tester we have is a clever bit of kit (does much more than just look at battery voltage) and it says it's ok.

Thanks.

Er OK, but why am I checking it? The front end was free from leaks, just a bit dirty...

No sign of oil on the pipe but whilst under there (risking your life!) you may as well check it.
If needed:

The split nut is a novel solution, not seen that before. And yes, I agree, that's an issue that is definitely worth checking. Thanks for the heads up both.

For the record, I did level the car off and had it sitting on both axle stands (and jacks) after I took the pic...

Am I the only to wonder how a gearbox leak not getting picked up by a PPI?? Or even before that, how does a reputable dealer would not have addressed that or even mentioned it to the buyer?
I think OP is taking this whole thing very positively as in his shoes, I would already be on the phone with the dealer and discuss warranty claim etc...

The Dealer made the terms of the sale very clear, no warranty, at all. It was effectively a private sale and the price reflected this.

The dealer can not make that call. There is no such thing as a private sale from a dealer. The sale of goods act covers this and the dealer is obliged by law to fix issues with or without a warranty.

Within some limits this is correct. A dealer is not able to make a private sale, even if the buyer agrees.

Putting aside the fact that I would wish to honour my own word, if I were inclined to pursue the matter (which I'm not), the car fulfils the requirements set out in your attachment.

It would be a different case if I found, for example, substantial corrosion issues meaning the engine was about to fall out. But we're talking about a minor gearbox oil leak that is noted in the MOT history as an advisory and doesn't present (touches wood) a major problem.

Every time I see that colour tho...major want!

It's not an easy colour to take a picture of though, plays havoc with the light sensor and camera's dynamic range.

What do you think of the black wheels? I like them but both my Dad and my Brother think they look ****...
