I think the links broke when the forum changed over. Are you doing it yourself then?

The mechanics and bleeding the clutch hydraulic line is straight forward enough. (After looking at Craig’s step by step guide!)

Just needs set up after with diagnostics, a specialist i was talking to recently told me that I can more than likely drive it to the dealer to get set up 100% without issue / excessive wear on new components.
I’ll do mine myself when the time comes and report back.

Having now assisted in several clutch changes with Ashley, there is nothing difficult technically but here are the challenges for the home mechanic:
  • You will need a ramp, it would be impossible to do it otherwise
  • The gearbox and torque tube are very heavy, you need 2 people to remove both items
  • Clutch bearing seals on the OEM bearing require fitting and if you nick the seal or fit it wrong its going to leak
  • You need SD to setup the clutch
  • You need SD to bleed the hydraulics, you could to it by jumping the pump or continuously opening the door to prime it but its not advised and again a 2 man job.
  • The Labour is £550 at SportsItalia.co.uk so it it really worth the agro?
Not fishing for work, this is an honest opinion of the job from a home DIY'ers perspective.

Good information there Matt.
I know Craig is a big strong lad and I'm sure he used to them on the floor to start with. I'm getting older so the first thing going in my workshop when we move in March is a new two post lift.

Thanks, know where you’re coming from.
It’s not really about the cost more actually enjoy the work on it and as normal with my GS a simple job soon escalates to a total rebuild!

I have looked into why the pics are not working on CW posts and the links for the images don't work anymore, for what reason I don't know, here is a sample one from CW's post:

As I recall, Craig made the pictures unavailable when he opened his own web site. If you go there all of his procedures are available with pictures.

Yep, indeed. I don't know why he did that. Looking at the change in URL's that broke it, it looks more like he moved it to a different server thus the links broke.

What’s the current cost to replace a clutch these days? Just the clutch plate itself if the flywheel etc is ok?

That is a very good price. Proximity for some of us rules it out as an option though ;)

I really need to stop procrastinating and get mine booked in (locally) having now had the clutch sitting in the dining room cupboard for a couple of years!
