I drove home yesterday with a cel on, hoped by switching off and restarting it might go away, but it didn't, so couple of questions, can i use an ordinary code reader to check for any codes? Where is the OBD Socket in a Gransport? Any other advice?

The socket is uder the dash by the drivers door .Yes you can use a code reader . It will show basic codes , Anything more compliated then you need it plug it into a proper Maserati tablet .

To clear most CEL, the battery can be isolated via the black rotary know in the rear battery compartment. To isolate the battery rotate the knob clockwise, the the fault should clear after 5 minutes.

Thought that was probably the case, keep losing radio settings when I do that, but hey ho, gut feeling says it's because the primary cats have been gutted, did they move the 2nd lambda probe to after the secondary cat? Very much doubt it, will have to get it on the ramps to have a look.

Your Generic reader should be able to clear them without the need of a battery disconnect. Not to say they wont come in again though ;)

Just had my first sort of crawl around underneath, and found out that this is what has been done, primary cats totally removed and replaced with this section, so nothing between the 1st and 2nd lambda probes, tempted to leave front section as is, and either get 2nd probes moved to after existing secondary cats, or get these cut out and replaced with 200cel sports cats with probes after. Throws a cel every time driven, would this be covered under the 6 month warranty it came with do you think?

How did they get it through an MOT if the O2 sensors and cats are not right..?
I not sure the issue isnt the secondary air system..
O2 sensors work in tandem...there's only an issue if they are out of step beyond a certain level as I understand it..?

I imagine the secondary cats do enough to pass the emissions test and as long as there isn’t a CEL on they would pass it.

The pre and post lambdas should work by measuring the before and after oxygen content and determine that the primary cats are working properly. This is probably the source of your warm up codes, as there is no difference between the primary and secondary cats.

Your post has reminded me of our discussion the other day - i’ll PM you about the flanges.

Does a basic code reader read any stored code but not necessarily show the error definition?

I’d speak to where you’d bought the GS, that exhaust is not right and to sort it properly with a quality set of cat sections is expensive.

You just need the 2nd probes moving after the remaining 2nd cats.
The 2nd cats are not monitored normally, but these are now your primary cats so the ecu needs to see the before and after readings.
Not a biggie getting a pair of probe sockets welded in situ, and apparently the existing wiring reaches.
Another option are buying a pair of probe extenders for the 2nd prodes. These extend the existing boss so the sensor tip is moved away from the gas flow so don't read as much carbon monoxide so the ecu thinks all okay, or you can buy extenders with a mini cat built-in if that doesn't work.

I have been using this in conjunction with an iPhone app ( Dash Command) that enables me to troubleshoot both my T5 and the car...
The app has all sorts of features allowing real time data streaming and custom dashboard via the screen of a tablet or whatever...All alot more than you probably want but the reader is simple enough. The app is supported by a forum and attended by the developers to answer queries etc...https://www.amazon.co.uk/Vehicle-Scanner-Adapter-Wireless-Diagnostic/dp/B07883V8KC/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_263_img_2?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0KQHRANA9KC0S7MB3KB4

It has it's limits - it wouldnt see the recent Skyhook fault. For that I needed Maserati's "Systema diagnosti". The code translations are available if you search google....

Well despite now having the lambda's in the right place, and new 200 cel sports cats, thought problem was solved, but no, after a couple of hundred miles today on came the cel light again today, :as001 (2): What next?

Just clear it with your generic reader, if that's all it is shouldn't go into limp mode.

Doesn't go into limp mode, just the bl**dy light comes on every time i drive it, but not for a hundred or so miles, going to start carrying the code reader in the car! Wonder if this will be covered by the 6 month warranty that came with the car?
