Gransport back from HR Owen

Ok after 2 weeks with HR Owen I finally picked my baby up and whilst I never had the aggro that Dem had, the service did not pass totally without incident.

First of all let me begin by saying that all the work that HR Owen did was agreed in writing together with the cost and I am happy to report that the final invoice I was presented with was to the penny exactly as I expected with much of the service price matched.

The car was booked in for an annual service together with a change of all fluids, filters and belts and a refill of aircon. In addition I asked them to change the spigot bearing (warranty), and at the same time to replace the clutch ( I had to pay for the clutch part itself). I also asked them to attend to the stud for the seatbelt strap which kept pulling out (warranty) misting up of windows due to blockage (warranty)

In addition to what I knew about they found other items to repair under warranty including, a small insignificant leak from radiator ( They fitted a new radiator). They also informed me that the wheel alignment was out and after some help from the forum they price matched the cost of doing the geometry.

There was a mishap during the service whereby the windscreen was cracked accidently. A new windscreen was ordered from Italy and fitted free of charge and without any fuss.

So am I happy????? Well I have only had the chance to drive the car a few miles but everything seems tight and exactly as it should be.

The cost to me was £1895 inclusive of Vat but for that I have had an annual service, change of all fluids, change of belts, complete recharge of air conditioning, new spigot bearing, a brand new clutch, a brand spanking new windscreen from Maserati, new radiator, a new horn, driver's seat repaired, geometry wheel alignment and a host of other bits and pieces so I am well pleased. For the duration I have had a brand new complimentary Alfa Mito to bomb around in

The value of main dealers demonstarted by the amount of warranty work done.

The question is would I use HR Owen or a main dealer again now that I am no longer in warranty and the answer is as I have stated in other threads YESSSSSSSSS.If I hit a major headache like F1 pump, cats, gearbox etc I would probably take the indie route but for routine servicing I am very happy with the result I achieved.

Yes it is true that I can get a cheaper deal from an Indie but if I price match, the cost should not be so greatly different. I also have the convenience of the complimentary loan car.

I have also found the service manager Tony Vaccaro beyond helpful and the staff extremely courteous.

The real bonus though was spending an entire morning there looking at some of the real exotics they had in including a an Alfa 8C and an MC12 and Zonda both belonging to the same client:eek: I spoke to the personal driver and carer of these cars which were delivered on the owner's behalf. Apparently this guy has a collection of over 30 supercars of which the MC12 and Zonda are just 2. He also has a couple of Ferrari 599's, Enzo, California and Lambos. Peter will be excited by the fact that the driver of all these stunning cars has one particular favourite..........the Gaiardo  He reckons it is the only super super supercar which is driveable for everyday. If the owner of all these priceless cars trusts HR Owen then who am I to argue as the poor relative??? :)

Final note that it takes two guys to collect the MC12, one to drive it and the other one to supervise any reversing :p

Dem, don't be jealous......much of the work done to my car was covered by warranty. Had it not been I would have had a bill from here to eternity. I just think that you were extremely unlucky with your experience but you know what????? Nobody died and the outcome was not a bad one.

Next time I go to HR Owen I will not have the protection of the original warranty, and I could be hit with a nasty surprise too. My car I hope is now sorted and I am praying that not buying the extended warranty will be a regret.

The only thing I would say without sounding too smug, is that it definately pays to do your homework before agreeing to any work. You can always say NO.

It is definately worth buying a used car still under warranty. I know that initially it costs a few thousand more but had my car been a 2006 rather than a 2007 the difference in cost would have been consumed very quickly .

If you find a Gransport I don't doubt that the the Forum will do their best to help you choose a good car.
