Thank you again for this. It would be good to hear your opinion of the head unit and app functionality if you get a moment.

@Zep, how much of this looks familiar from when you installed the Alpine?

It’s pretty much exactly the same, with the exception that with the alpine the only mod needed on the adapter that came with it was to swap the permanent and switched lives around.

Space around the back of the HU is super tight, I removed the switch panel below the radio to allow manipulation of the cables under the HU to get it to seat properly.

Did the amp bypass today, took it out with the harness, useful bit of weight saving. Running directly from my Blaupunkt and everything sounds perfectly serviceable again. Thanks for the guide :thumb3:

Great stuff! I wonder how Maserati ended up buying these amps and deciding to charge extra for them :)

Gents, I had replaced my speakers and in attempt to get a little better sound, I decided to remove them and install some dynomat behind them. Question I have is, on my 02, will I benefit from bypassing the auditorium amp?

Possible... unplug the cable that feeds the amp and then plug it into the return feed... the cable ends match so not a big job.

Okay, I will give it a try! As far as the rear deck speakers, should I unplug those also?

Some suggest so, but I left mine connected.

The only reason I disconnected the ASK amp was that the new head unit had enough power and was conflicting with the amp.

The rear deck speakers piggy back off the rear quarter speakers and are mids only (no tweater). It is a very compromised set up wiring wise, by unplugging the deck speakers you do get much better quality of sound out of your improved rear quarter speakers because the audio feed is not being split

I actually ended up removing the deck speakers entirely and fitting an underseat subwoofer underneath the parcel shelf deck in the void behind the third break light. This works really well because these small subs do not have enough power to be too intrusive and complements the audio set up perfectly as these cars are fundamentally lacking bass due to the coupe design

Had a bit more time to play more with it. The head unit works good as a basic unit. The app connection can be a bit finicky. It defaults to using Bluetooth but got much better reliability switching that to USB. Only disadvantage is the cable needs to be connected.

One thing I wish is if the fit and finish were better. It does feel a bit cheap/plasticy but I guess that’s what you get for sub $200. I still haven’t found (in my opinion) a better option beside the Porsche Classic (but there were taking $1500).
