Gransport Audio Upgrade

I decided to upgrade the audio in my Gransport and document the process for others.

Step one today was bypassing the "upgraded" Auditorium 200 amplifier. To my amazement, audio quality actually IMPROVED by doing this and relying on the built-in amplifier of the Becker head unit. I'm still going to proceed with the rest of the upgrade, but if anyone else is interested in trying this (30 mins work) I would love to hear if you found the same?

Excellent article, but one point of order. Auditorium was also an option on the Gransport, it was included as part of the LE package.

I’m curious if it’s a market difference in North America, just like Skyhook was mandatory here as well.

That I don’t know, Skyhook was fitted to all UK cars too. Auditorium wasn’t.

If you wanted to save a few bucks you could ask that the Skyhook wasn't fitted - all the cars that went to Australia had this (they were UK ordered cars).

Sorry, no Australian delivered Gransports have Skyhook. All the Australian cars are UK ordered, including the dealership cars. It was only one dealership that brought them over (which is now Scuderia Graziani), every car was a base spec car with no options, including no Skyhook. I remember driving one as the first Gransport I looked at and thinking it was a bit sad without any of the luxuries, it felt like a V8 MX-5 and was super expensive. I think it was about 25-75 cars that were ordered this way, but I don't remember exactly.

As another fun fact - there are more Gransports in the Australia than their original home in the UK. When I was dealing with DBA trying to find rotors they had some tool to look up registration for the Gransport and there were about 270 here, so the lionshare of the ~470 UK cars.

Yes, there was a significant movement of UK cars to Oz several years ago. All of the UK cars that made it there will be Skyhook.

I understand that cars for various RHD territories all come through the U.K. dealer network and are then re-exported, including Oz. The cars are specifically made for the end market so there can be variations in spec.

Very timely! I was looking at doing exactly this. I have auditorium with an aftermarket Blaupunkt I installed a few years ago, with pioneer front door speakers. It has always sounded terrible. I am down to blaming this amp. I don't care about good music quality in this car, it would be nice if it sounded 'just ok' and I had bluetooth that worked. I'll definitely attempt your guide :)

Removed my ASK amp a few years back as my replacement head unit kept blowing the amps fuse.

Easy job to do once you know how to bypass the system by linking the male and female multi plugs... did a how to on here five years back.

The best thing to do for better sound is to Dynomat your doors and seal the front door speaker hole as its really badly designed . The four speaker mounting points are up on pillars. I packed the gaps between the pillars with strip after strip of Dynomat so that the speaker squishes down onto it once tightened up sealing the cavity. Also Dynomat the inner and outer skin of the door . The best sound improvment that you can do .

Something off-topic, but on topic at the same time. The grille on the tweeter at the upper of the driver's door sometimes falls down, and it cann't get fixed without any glue. Has anyone had an experience like this before, and what did you do? The aerea is very tight and if you put some glue, it will be seen on the leather trim.
