Gran Turismo : choice of petrol

Hi, just wondering if there's a specific fuel that tends to be better for the Gran Turismo? When I had the Porsche it's original owner told me he'd used nothing but Shell V Power so I continued to use V Power for the 6 years I had the car. Couldn't say whether it made any difference or not to the car's performance as I'd nothing to compare it against......and I'm still not sure whether V Power is just a marketing ploy.

There's a number of threads about the relative merits on here where tonnes of people have expressed opinions.

The general view is that there isn't benefit in any one fuel, or even super v standard. When I got mine, the dealer said that it will run perfectly well on standard fuel but to avoid supermarket stuff. He suggested putting one tank of super to every three or four of standard but as a matter of preference I usually put super in. It happens that it's Shell but only because that's the closest garage to me.

Shell V-power uses a GTL gas to liquid additive, basically C1 methane converted to a synthetic liquid fuel in a very expensive process. It's the only additive of this type in any fuel. All others use ethanol type boosters I believe.

your car will run fine on either, is super unleaded better, probably yeah, will you tell, probably no. Completely subjective.

For the record I use predominantly v-power, when I do stick normal stuff in I notice bugger all difference but I do buy into the hype that super fuels will keep your engine that little bit cleaner, or should that be make it get dirty that little bit less.

Worked for Shell on 2 occasions in my life and first time was directly involved in the dosing / measurement of ALL fuel additives.

As an aside all 3rd party fuel, supermarkets etc normal stuff is the exact same, and then all fuels, v-power included, use exactly the same feed stock before the additive is added which is directly at the loading nozzle into the tanker

I'd stick with the good stuff anyway but don't worry about putting normal stuff in at all

Thanks for your responses. I think I'll use the super unleaded primarily. Just looking forward to getting the car and enjoying the ride :)

I've found there's quite a premium on 99 Ron fuel, costco have just opened up near me selling 99 Ron at 109.9 which is only 4p more than 95

When I had the impreza there was definitely a difference in tick over smoothness on 99 fuel

I got the same smooth running with tesco momentum so I ran it on that

On my last trip to Germany I put some Aral 102 Octane in the Granturismo and I REALLY noticed a difference. Far smoother and the power boost was definitely there.

I use 98 from local Jet garage as there is not much difference in price but if i was at a motorway station i would go for 95 to get me home as they are a rip off an can be 10p per litre more. I find it amusing that in Saudi Arabia they only have 91 or 95 - I guess the product marketing people have not got around to improving the fuel with an advertising campaign.
