This whole story is Bl00dy awful enough, this morning NZ police have announced it is now a murder investigation and will be charging a man later today.

I have just found out the family are friends of one of my clients employees I’ve worked closely with for 10 years, he has a daughter also on the other side of the world. I know we regularly discuss our children and family travelling on here but this is just awful to contemplate. Our thoughts have to be with the family today.

what an evil world we live in, having daughters of my own I have always hammered down to be cautious and never take anyone at face value especially when in a foreign country, it's a shame these sick evil twisted people don't die at birth, always wondered whether some people are simply born evil,, cant imagine the pain and horror the family is going through but my heart goes out to them.

I can't say I wasn't expecting this the way the police weren't giving much information out , as a parent with teenage children I can't imagine the pain her parents will be feeling .

A guy on the radio yesterday ran a business offering safety advice to travellers , one that I thought made sense was for travellers getting in a taxi to take a picture of the registration and driver then text it to a friend making sure the driver knows you've done it , if he says anything tell him a friend was abducted and it's something you do in every taxi .

I'm usually quite savvy on holiday , the only time I ever felt threatened was in Egypt in 1995 , I'd gone out with my camera and tripod in Luxor to take some evening shots , a young lad came and started talking to me , there were a lot of people about so that was ok but after a few minutes he started trying to persuade me to come with him to a better spot for pictures

I declined and he got quite insistent taking my arm and trying to lead me away , Billy Connolly is right , **** off spoken loudly doesn't need translating

He backed off , could have been totally innocent but I wasn't taking any chances

She was from Wickford where I was born and bred. A lot of my friends knew her and her family.
My sister in law's sister was one of her best friends.

Very sad.

Truly heartbreaking, hope they throw away the key with the fooking low life scum murderer, prison is too good for murderers and should be an eye for an eye in cases where it's fully proven well beyond reasonable doubt.

Simply horrendous.
I can’t begin to imagine what the family is going through or how they will begin to deal with it.
So sad.

Mate of mine wrote an app after a local girl was murdered by a taxi driver. Every girl/woman should have it if they spend time alone etc....

http://safeknight.org/home.aspx

Amazing idea...

"SafeKnight is a free mobile 'app' designed as a safety tool for everyday situations of vulnerability. With just one click, the app enables you to take a photo and automatically store it on a secure database, paired with your unique ID, time, date and the GPS location of where it was taken.
SafeKnight can be used in a number of everyday situations such as using taxi services or public transport, chronicling movements on a night out, travelling abroad, internet dating, and meeting new people through social media.
The database can only be accessed by the police and other investigatory services, so all you need to do is take photos if you’re ever in a vulnerable situation. Please tell a loved one that you’re using SafeKnight so that they know to report it, if the situation ever does arise."

Very sad, a life taken and many others ruined..... how will her family ever get over this.
I am glad my daughters never had the travelling alone bug, but lots do and have the time of their lives, I would never sleep for worrying.
Thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

There are different apps around some U.K. based ones I used to use one when I used to be traveling alone late in London cycling or walking alone especially. It’s such a shame that you can’t seem to trust anyone anymore.
At work we use sky guard a line working pendant with a panic button that calls for help hopefully I will never have to use it.

my wife used to carry a personal attack alarm in her handbag many moons ago, she never had to use it than god, technology has come a long way since then and a good thing to bearing in mind all the wackos out there
