LOL....we live and learn. Best place to do it there for sure.

My brain was struggling to absorb it all that day as well so you weren't alone

Not a technique I have seen documented before but your still alive

I'm no rally driver but my view is hitting the brakes half way through a fast corner will only unsettle the car more and send you into a slide or a spin . Don't touch anything and turn through the corner and let the chassis deal with it . It always works for me .

You cant beat the wind in your hair though

No Richard I haven't, when I had my 4200 I did love the raw power and kick in the back the early gearbox software gave it , I didn't realise the GS was different to drive , I thought it was just a 4200 with added bling at double the money
You cant beat the convertible MX5 experience in the summer though:D

I recall a Top Gear episode where they reviewed the GS and were shocked at the transformation. Probably on YouTube somewhere. Agree MX5s are great fun (drove one around South Australia and came home and bought one for a year!) but not the character, beauty, sound or pride of ownership of a Maserati for me. True of 99% of cars I guess!

Totally agree about hitting brakes and can see the logic of keeping things smooth but I was always taught try to keep constant throttle as lifting can be as disastrous as braking as it too upsets the car. I can remember one session with an instructor in a 911, where I we were lapping faster and faster and then suddenly all **** broke loose as we went into a massive spin. When the car had stopped the instructor looked at me and asked why the f*king hll did you lift !!! I wasn't aware I had but apparently my brain had decided we were going to fast and told my foot to back off, which unsettled the car and round and round we went. A lesson well learnt

Is that the one where at the end Clarkson askes "Yes, but can you have this thing with a proper gearbox?" !!!

Lift off oversteer resulted in me rolling my 1.4S Fiesta when I was 18.
A very harsh lesson learnt there and then.

These guys led by Colin Hoad are probably the best guys from whom to learn driving technique:

They will show you in a 1:1 8 hour day (approx 6.5hrs of driving with an instructor) every technique and nuances of cars such as a 911 turbo with a rear-slung engine and all-time 4 WD and a GS with a V8 lump up front with rear wheel drive and how to improve technique for the road or the track. I know several people who have been through their full one day training program and rate it 10/10. I plan on doing it next year - the day ain't cheap though - 1:1 tuition never is. But all the people I know that have done it cite it is 100% value. I have spoken to Colin and his wife who run the academy and both very nice people to deal with.

It is worse in a TVR as if you lift off suddenly it is like someone pulling the hand brake up due to higher the normal levels of engine braking. Ask me how I know....

It was a 2003 year car and to be honest JC had a real downer on F1 TECH regardless of make, so it did not get a chance... funny if you watch old episodes to see them slate a car or praise it, only to have the complete opposite opinion a few years later.
