Hi All
Its that time in my long life that I need to fore-fill an urge and guess what a Granturismo is that urge
Bit about me, well, I'm getiin old now but young at heart, big motorbike nut, still have 3 of them, current cars are a bog standard Honda HRV and a funky little MR2 roadster that is super fun, I really love the look, sound and exclusivity of the GT and are certainly very interested in getting one in the future. Anyway I'll fire away a few questions, excuse my ignorance

I would probably go for the GTS, budget would be 30-35k , am I correct in thinking 2012 had some minor updates

Now, this is where I get confused, transmission type, Auto and MC shift, I look at some cars that are auto but have paddles by the steering wheel and see some that have a gear knob and others that have buttons where the gear knob should be ????

I will probably ask a lot more "nooby" questions

Cheers Rob

Welcome Rob. You have made a great choice and any Maserati is special. Basically the auto is a 6 speed and has paddles for semi manual use. The auto box always has control and shifts when red lining or coming to a stop if you are in the wrong gear. The MC is the true paddle shift drivers car. You should try both and also decide the type of driving you plan to do most of.

More will be along to tell, you the virtues of both and details of 2012. I have a QP so cannot assist. :as002:

Welcome and how polite.

4.7 came as a 6 speed ZF auto (GTS Auto) from 2009 to 2012 and an automated single clutch (GTS) from 2008 to 2012. Both had paddles and the former had a regular gearbox kkkknob and latter buttons. There are external trim, seat and suspension differences between the two so do a search. As with all things Maserati you could swap out/in various differences when ordering.

Both updated to GT Sport late 2012 with 20 more PS, new seats and some other stuff. Auto had updated software when driven in sport mode. Servicing is two years/12500 miles, they wear suspension components as they are heavy cars and front brakes are very expensive on the 4.7. 4.2 uses the 4.7 rear brakes on the front and the back and they are a lot cheaper. 4.7 is loud in sport mode which is half the attraction!

They all have paddles
If its got a stick, it's an auto
If its got buttons (1 and R) it's an MC shift.
Have a read round the forum, plenty of posts about the positives and negatives of each.

How will you drive it? Weekend toy around the lanes? Or daily driver in town?

Welcome, Rob (I’m assuming you’re Rob). Top choice of car. Clearly a man of refined and exquisite taste.

Give Richard Grace (Richard Grace Cars) and Nareman Virk (Nuvola) a call. Both well regarded indies.

Greetings, welcome and good first step finding this forum.
Another good move would be to give Richard Grace a call.
Enjoy your search …
Happy to talk you through all the variations, I’ve written them on here more times than I care to remember. At your budget, you’ll get a 2012 MY auto with sport pack (MC Autoshift) or a 2013 MY MC Shift (F1 gearbox).
