Thank you for letting me join, i'm proud to say I've just bought a 3200GT, 1999 V, 57,000 miles silver/blue auto. I have always always wanted to own a Maserati 3200GT I think its a supermodel and beautiful whichever way you look at it, I have a 996 C4 Cab and wanted an old school pairing of fun, horses for courses and all that, but this has been something for years I have wanted. I have bought said 3200GT, the history file is biblically great and seldom used. I have bills of sales (3 owner) and a significant and eye watering amount of Grimaldi history and every misc invoice item you can imagine which to be fair helped me and pushed me to buy the car. Purchase day arrives and me and the Dorris (partner) collect the car. Filled up at Shell and put in the bigger ron nice fuel. 50/60 miles in all is well, middle lane 65/70 mph Check Engine Light comes on............................ yup, I preyed it wouldn't and it did. It went into a sort of limp mode but on way to Norfolk there are no hard shoulders as such. Carried on at a 52/55mph for 20/25 miles and then she decided at a roundabout 10mph enough was enough. Parked up, and recovered home. Oil pressure stayed true so too battery level. The car has been recovered home and now in the garage and I would appreciate some guidance as I love the car and don't know what to do. My car was registered 09/09/1999! So not sure what OBD I would need to scan the car as I think mine is an older port. I know I know I should have pulled over and stopped, but the Dorris is 7 months pregnant and the A14 at times isn't great to just simply pull over. The car starts but is decidedly lumpy at best (CEL on) and hasn't of course been driven.............................. any help and advice I would really genuinely appreciate - thank you Russ

I have the Autel AP200 that was recommended to my on here, great bit of kit and cheap too. I had a look in the Maserati listed vehicles and two listings for the 3200GT, one just says 3200 GT and the other 3200 GT - EOBD, others should be able to confirm if this will read and clear codes on your car, I hope this helps, link to their site below.

Welcome, nice choice of car :) There is a good chance it will be throttle related, but without the codes it will be difficult. You shouldn't have caused damage as limp mode is there to protect the car. Get the codes read, hopefully an easy fix and enjoy your car.

Welcome to the madhouse, and congratulations on the car. 3200's are lovely when they're on song and when it's fixed you'll love it. With the history you have it sounds like a basically good car that's just having a bit of a hissy. Assuming the temperature and oil pressures, are ok my money's on something relatively simple like a failed coil pack, air leak, or even a fuel issue. When it's running, check the tailpipes and see if is there is an indication of a misfire on one side, or is it on both? In the absence of a code reader it might give you a clue for some simple checks, although as Allandwf says, a code reading is advisable.

Hi just joined from NZ also with 3200 GT auto. Dec 1999 UK new #1710 26,500mls with 1 owner before me who imported it to NZ. Can almost grantee your problem is the same as the one I just fixed (throttle body). Quick check take off hose too front of the throttle body and see if the butterfly closes by return spring if you open it gently and let it go. If sticks open or very stiff to move see Maserati3200.com for an overhaul. Note also the accelerator pedal potentiometer causes issues. You will need to check codes for sure otherwise. Do not try to take off A/C knobs as they will break and there are no replacements that I can find so far. Emanualonline available and its good to have for yourself if you are DIY or use a local garage. Sticky plastic? Very messy gets on everything. Cleaning oh what fun not! At least you are good for what parts are available close by. Freight to NZ is horrendous.

Congrats on buying a fantastic car. One thing you will find on this forum is that via everyone, they have seen it, done it and got the t-shirt. Im 18 months into ownership of 4200 and the support has been great. What i will say, is drive it. Keep everything ticking over and lubricated…and enjoy with a big smile on your face like i do..

A PP or TB fault won't cause it to run "lumpy at best", it just wont rev (limp home mode), or the revs would hang, you really do need to have any codes read before doing anything or jump to any conclusions. Nice choice BTW :).

A 1999 car will have the FIAT 3 pin diagnostic system which cannot be read by an OBD2 scanner. You need to hook it up to a Maserati SD2 at a Maserati dealership or independent specialist. Alternatively, you could try and rig up your own Windows PC running Unidiag, but that will only cover the codes on the engine side through the connector in the driver’s footwell. All the control units have their own 3 pin diagnostic connectors in a 1999 car. There isn’t a single OBD2 style connector to access everything.
