A simple task.
Fit the USB data Socket and connection cable to test out my luvally new HW8.1 NIT.
Simple:
Open glovebox, drop the top hex socket bolts, hinge it down.
Remove blanking cap. Inspect orifice for cable passage.
Hmmm, where is the entrance and routing behind the drop down box?
Undo the drop down restraints, still can't hinge box far enough down to reach behind and route cable.

Note the curved toothed runner still limiting opening
76361

Can't see how to relieve to allow inner box to drop further.

Then notice:-
76362
Time to give up.

Sooooo.
What's the trick or is the glove box interior box designed around the cable, and everything fitted around it.
There must be a means of routing it.
Or how is dismantling achieved so one can obtain access around the back and route the cable to the limited space of the socket?

(Don't worry, I'm thin skinned and a bleeder... happens all the time)

Ouch. How are you going to get that out of the stiching?

Bloody **** dude. Hope you got some sympathy out of it!

If it’s anything like the 3200 slim but looks similar. The front of the lid is a separate part and you need to remove it to get the rest off. Undo these

You have to drop out the entire glove box. It's a bit of a headache, but you have to undo the bottom screws holding the glove box in. You have the remove the interior piece in the top of the footwell, and then there are 3 or 4 bolts that hold in the glovebox. Then disconnect the light. This way the entire box comes out and you have better access. Then you screw out some of the screws that oneball has marked. I should give you enough wiggle room to feed the cable through. Removing the entire front requires removing the handle/lock, which i didnt feel like doing.

When you have the glovebox out you can insert the wire and fit the cable. It is bit of a challenge to route the cable in the glovebox. It has to go around one of bottom screw holes and then out in the left rear corner. Make sure you have the cable lengths all ok before reinstalling the glove box. Make sure you screw in the bottom screw properly.

You should be able to route the cable from the glovebox through the side of the center console. With the bottom interior piece fitted the cable shouldnt be visible.

Chris that's fabulous. Well sort of but you know what I mean.
I would have never imagined how complicated it would have been. I'll give a go soon when I've plenty time.

It reminds me of my ALFA Sprint veloce of 1984 (I adored her). The car was designed around the headlamp bulbs. To change the bulb the headlamp unit needed to come out. To get the headlamp unit out, the front grille has to come off. To get the grille off, the front bumper............ several hours later....

Thanks again. I did notice a large steel plate in the front foot well which seemed to be the main glovebox fixing. I presume that.

...... and loop left hand rear corner.... that's the opposite side to the console on RHD. I hope my loom is long enough.

Ah yes, i forgot the RHD part. I actually didnt find it too difficult, bolts have good access.

All the interior stuff i did was actually very easy. At one point i will have to pull the entire dash and center console. Its a bit of work and have to take your time but its just a lot of bolts.

Yer roit Nav. I kept her too long. She was a small pile of dust on the drive in the end with the engine still screaming like a banshee

If there ever were to exist an annual award for best named thread title based on appropriately aligned content, this is in my top 3... period.

I was going to say something very similar... and the clever use of the word period is brilliant!

I'm glad someone spotted it!! :D

I'm looking into getting my name changed to 'Chris Whitty'... (I'll leave out the Prof part, I'm not one for titles)

Thank you so much Oneball and ChrissGT.

I now have a USB socket and wiring loom...................

.........................................and a rogue spare bolt as a bonus not like any of the ones removed

Thanks, satisfying if somewhat of a task

Nice!

I can imagine the old girl is walking around a bit John-Wayne-esque after that ordeal...

Nice, now you can enjoy more modern connectivity options :D
Ironically this will be the 3rd NIT. She had a 2010 HW7.1 when I bought her. Who on earth was making HW 7.1 then for goodness sake.
I'm not really bothered about the added gizmos to be honest. Just a reliable NIT that doesn't fail and distract.
