I have recently replaced my clutch with a CO.ME mecanism. I put the disk the same side you did and it works !

Great news, thanks for the info! Meanwhile I've also received the answer from CO.ME that this is the way it should be. But it's even more reassuring that you have a running example. Is yours a Ghibli too or a 3200?

Does it have a 5 speed ZF? I think those were using a similar Borg & Beck kit originally not the Sachs kit.

Well Done and such a Great feeling after much work and efforts.
The last one for me was my old Daimler XJC 4.2 in New Zealand.

Unfortunately that feeling didn't last too long I've assembled the cooling system, tidied up the wiring, did the finishing touches in the engine bay. Attached the driving shaft to the gearbox and installed the center exhaust. Filled up with coolant and started up again in order to do an initial heat up. But received this noise which was absent on the first start, it only had a bit louder exhaust sound without the exhaust system.

Will first check the valve train, chains and clearance... I really hope there is no serious problem but the noise is real worrying and I'm loosing my patience.

Tread carefully and never forget basics.
Oil pressure is getting up to the top for the valve gear ?

Really difficult to tell from a video, but my first thought was exhaust manifold or manifold to turbo.

Fingers crossed coz you’ve done such an awesome job so far.

How do I check that without removing the covers and making a big mess? Before installing the engine I poured oil into the heads on the valve gears to make sure there is oil before the initial pressure builds up. And I've also primed the system with the starer, no spark plugs, no fuel. First 10 second sounded OK, second start immediately started with noise.

not sure if this is your particular problem but I had a similar scraping metallic noise on my spyder when I changed rad hoses for silicone ones, and found that one of the new stainless hose clips was so close to the pulley that it was being scrapped and taking bits of metal off the projecting part of the clip, was quite worrying at first and thought the worst until I discovered the problem, worth checking your hose clips

Attach a capillary fed oil pipe and gauge to the oil gallery on the block by removing the sender unit.

Can those make a mechanical noise?

Good idea, will check the obvious things also with a calm head.

The oil pressure sender is on the oil pump. Or you mean a different sender?

Check it there on the oil pump and see what you're getting against the electronic sender unit.

No but a leaking manifold can sound surprisingly similar to a loose tappet.

I’d have a look at the things you’ve done since the first start, it wouldn’t be too much of a coincidence if something you’ve done has cause the noise.

Probably teaching you to suck eggs: If it is mechanical and the oil pressure is fine go round the engine with a screwdriver against your ear and see if you can determine the location of the noise.

Totally agree with the above.
Did you check the faces of the exhaust manifolds as they can warp.
A leak there can sound very metallic indeed.
Keep us posted.
