Getting ready to pull the trigger...

I've wanted a Maserati GT for a while but have never been able to justify it, I still can't by the way :) ...I drive 10 miles to drop the kids at school each day in a Volvo XC60 and the odd hour drive to take the kids to their grandparents. I had a coupe before, a 2003 Mercedes CLK 320, it's languishing outside waiting for me to fit new bushes so I can get an MOT and sell it. 2 years and counting! Realistically it's only worth £1k as there's a fair bit of bodywork damage, and that's 'IF' I can find a buyer. I might bolt the wheels back on and see if I can get someone interested as 'spares or repairs'. The point is I got that when it was 2 years old and loved how special it felt at the time.

Anyyyyyway....I'm waffling. The short story is the company I work for just IPOd and the shares I have are a bit of windfall I wasn't expecting so it might be now or never if I'm going to do it. We'd be talking a budget of up to £40k as I want something that's done a lot of its depreciating.

Where do I start please? Are there some buyers guides out there maybe? All I know so far is I'd like the 4.7 engine and the half cream leather/half black alcantara interior floats my boat. The 20" Neptune alloys are a non-negotiable must - beautiful clever design.

I wonder what the insurance is going to be for a 47 year old, full no claims, Aylesbury.

Well hello all, I'm glad I found the forum and look forward to joining the ranks :)

Hello Beeza,
Knowledgeable people will be along shortly with plenty of good advice about GTs.
I have a QPV so will keep quiet.
Whilst am not an expert, that does not stop me loving it to bits and I expect your GT to be will have a similar effect on you. These cars are very special.
Any way, welcome to the Forum. You are certainly in the right place. And in anticipation, welcome to the select band of Maserati owners.
In passing, on a recent 40 mile cross country drive to Reading, I saw 2 Bentleys, 3 Astons, 2 Ferraris, more Porsches and fast Mercedes than I could count, but the only Maserati I saw was the one I was driving :)

Beeza, welcome to the madness. A GTS is a decent start to Maser ownership but more importantly which BSA 650 have you got? An RGS?

Evening Bezza,

Welcome to the forum, you have come to the right place. With your budget, the world is your lobster for a GT, bar maybe a Stradale.

There are two main types, the GTS, this has the 4.7 was available between 2007 and 2012 ish, has the MC Shift gearbox, which is a robotised manual with a clutch and actuator to do the gear shifting. You’ll easily get into one of those. Then there is the GT Sport, which was a facelift around 2012. These have either the auto box, which was reprogrammed for sportier shifts, and sometimes the MC Shift gearbox. This has a newer design front bumper, which some prefer, and newer seats which are really nice.

As you have some specific wants in terms of interior, talk to some dealer with @dickygrace or Nareman at Nouvola who might know of something you will like.

Whatever you end up with, you’ll love it!

I've got two A65 Thunderbolts both1969....one's been thoroughly SRMd with 800cc bore kit, gas flowed, larger valves, balanced crank etc. 66 RWHP the dyno printout from the previous owner says. The other's standard and will be for sale once I've fettled it further. Also got a 1973 Laverda SF1 750.

It's the gearboxes I really need to learn about first - I'm not a particularly fast driver - there always seems to be too much traffic to gun it - so the auto box might be a better choice as I definitely value refinement. I'll be honest - £40K is really top end for me - ideally I'd like to come in fair bit lower as I don't want it to loose too much value sitting in the garage. An option is something with higher miles as I probably won't be putting that much more on.

That’s a fair assessment, the MC Shift is a bit less smooth, but some prefer that, the auto a bit slower, but smoother.

I’d recommend finding some for sale and trying them.

Quick question, the Neptune wheels, are they available on the 2012 on (auto box) cars too?

Welcome.

As others have said, give Richard a call at Richard Grace cars... to me it sounds like a 4.7 Auto with sport pack will be the right one for you.

A post in the “Motorcycle” thread required methinks. ;)

Welcome, you will easy find a suitable car at that price point. Don't worry about the wheels as you can swap them out after. Ditto insurance as they don't cost a lot in this regard.

Getting alcantara probably points you in the direction of the F1 shift as they came with alcantara as standard whereas the auto is full leather. Let us know how you get on.
