Geo Setup Issues

So I had a day out yesterday up to Wrexham, to Tuned UK for a Geo set up. Its not exactly the most local place to Silverstone, but came highly recommended, and after 3.5 weeks of not driving the car, thought id use the roads back through Wales to give her bit of a run out through some decent roads.

Long story short, he couldn't do as much as what he wanted, as he said that the lock nut on the inner tie rod at the front was seized solid and had already been attacked, so was starting to round off. He suggested that I get both inner tie rods and he can replace quite easily, and sort the toe out at the same time. Cant seem to find a picture on the Eurospares site, but found one on Ebay. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maserati...qO7ium4n1z-S22n5EJ6oLBcRrUPzzODhoC_VcQAvD_BwE

Any suggestions and thoughts welcome

Surely the nut can be removed suRgically ( cut off basically)
Removing the tie rod isnt hard...Releasing it from the car, remove the nut and replace it. Refit and adjust as normal..
The rod threads out of the rack with minimal drama IIRC

( Id be a bit pi55ed having waited so long for a slot for them to be quite as defeatist as that but what do I know,,,,probably got paying customers baying at their heels with a handful of cash huh !!)

Newton has some of these parts I think (2b1ask1) try him. I also would expect to be able to get this all freed up. The rear tie rods come with the wishbone so you cant get the OEM ones separately.

To a point I agree, I think if I went back with the correct nuts etc, that they would be willing to do the work, but obviously they don't carry an assortment of nuts etc, and they have a slot for doing the work etc.

I had a similar problem some years ago, and the company doing the GEO set up recommended loosening all the shim points and adjusters before going to the appointment. It meant almost stripping the whole suspension and took me ages but the GEO set up went smoothly!!! I seem to remember i also replaced some parts of the suspension in advance to make sure it was all going to be good for some time , so I would not have to repeat the GEO set up soon.

I do indeed have the sockets (external coarse thread and internal fine thread) for the rear tie rods if you need them. I’m well aware how seized they can be! My sockets are UK precision engineered and BZP plated as per OEM.

Fellas- I think we're talking about front tie rods here...in case you read the post !!?! :D

My main point Daryl was that replacing the entire rod is surely not necessary mate...!
Good luck.

The inner rods are available (at least they were when I bought them from Ross @ Meridien) but they don’t list them in the parts catalogue. Either call Ross @ Meridien or one of the usual suspects and they will help you. But saying that, I don’t think you need them, just take the rod off, apply leverage and replace the nuts.

Cheers all.
Iv proposed the above to the chap, so see what he says. A little disappointed that he didn't think to do that at the time, but then I guess it would have impacted his other work/slots. Im also aware that he was pretty sick of track rods at this stage, as a 2015 Fiesta he had in before me couldn't be adjusted as he was waiting for new ones to arrive. Not ideal I know, but given his previous service to a close friend of mine, il give him the benefit of the doubt on this occasion.
