Hello All,

I'm planning on a trip to the Geneva Motor show for 2020 and I'm doing it by road from Isle of Skye in my 3200GT, hopefully via the new ferry service from Rosyth that is supposed to be announced soon.

Anyway I wondered if anyone has visited the show and has any useful tips they could pass on?

On my tour I'll also be visiting the Schlumpf Collection in Mulhouse, the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese, and do a tour of the Maserati factory in Modena, probably also do a factory tour in Germany (maybe AMG) on the way back through Germany.

Cheers

Stuart

Bars in Geneva are expensive! If you haven't visited the schlumpf collection in Mulhouse you should! Schlumpf collection You can also drive (for a fee) some really nice classic cars that they have in their collection.

We stayed in Mulhouse - never a mention of a collection. Maybe just too interested in the bar...

I was surprised that the Schlumpf Collection wasn't on the MOB itinerary last year. It really is one of the best car museums I've ever been to.

I regularly visit Switzerland with work and, beautiful as it is, am sacred about going into bars if I'm not on expenses !!!!!!

Schlumpf Collection ...Its definitely the best one I've been to and I last went in 1989 ! I remember they had 3 Bugatti Royales and lots of early Maseratis so I'm really keen to go back ...

The Schumpf collection is great. The reason we didn’t get there last year is that it was already a jammed schedule. I mean, which bit would you have forgone to get there?

Go to Geneva show every year for the last 10 years or so. Best show of the lot. The only one where most if not all main manufacturers attend - much more so than Paris/Frankenfurter.

But try not to go on the weekend - mental!

We stay in centre of Geneva here:
https://le-montbrillant.hotels-geneva.org/en/

Right in amongst everything (railway station, taxis right next door), near the lake and a great Italian restaurant about 100 yds along from the hotel:

Cheap to get into the show but not cheap otherwise.

If near Mulhouse, the Schlumpf is a must see for car fans. Went there last year stayed along the road in the centre of Colmar.

I feel it is time for SM to make an appearance at this on mass, who's with me?

There should be some interesting Maserati stuff on show I feel and give an insight to the coming decade.
Indeed there will be some of the pluggie-in type stuff there next year I understand.

Yes, as Eb said, it would have eaten into valuable drinking time!

My daughter lives nearby so no problem with accommodation ... Good advice about weekend visit ... I'll go on the Monday & Tuesday, then plan to head to Arese to the Alfa museum and onwards to Modena. I'm a bit worried about the road conditions if its a cold winter and I believe Germany insists on winter tyres.... So I'd have to avoid Germany I think.

Really?
I've been for the last 3 years, usually fallen when I've been skiing and popped in while at the airport.
Loads of manufacturers miss the show, for example Jaguar/Land Rover wasn't at the show last year!
Great for small specialist manufacturers though.

JLR arent doing anything major event wise and haven't for 12 months.

More are at this show than any other. Go to Frankfurt or Paris and you'll see what I mean. Its a much bigger show.

Certainly agree that more specialists there. Particularly EV and associated services particularly over past 3-4 years.

Ford, Hyundai, Volvo, Opel/Vauxhall, Lotus also gave it a miss from what I recall.
At least it is cheap to get into the show, the NEC parking charge is comparable, really!
I always thought Geneva to be the smallest show, I haven't been to any others.
The Classic Motor Show at the NEC is much bigger, for comparison.
You can really do it in a couple of hours if you go during the week, yes the weekend can be packed!

Classic show Ive also been to but I dont remember it being bigger but I could be wrong.

Around 600,000 attended Geneva this year but that was down around 10% on 2018.

Shows are certainly becoming less popular in favour of events like FoS for example.

Best enjoy these shows while they are still around I guess:D

I’m keen. But would probably just fly in for the day (maybe stay one night, to allow for local beer “sampling”).

And if brands such as Hyundai and Opel weren’t there, I’d take that as a positive.
