Gearbox Filter Stuck

Hi,

I know the gearbox filter is a pain for most of us to remove.

I am out of options on mine as it literally seems as if it's fused to the housing, I have tried all methods and tools I can think of to get it out with no success.

Below are pictures of it's current state in situ, any tips on how to remove as I am really stuck!

Thanks

Wow...that does look butchered!

Anyway to put a large tap into it?
Yeah I am surprised at how stuck it is, didn't pry in anyway, no twisting or aft movement at all no matter what was tried.

Very limited space for a tap but could be an option?

I would use a tap (second or plug for ‘bite’) wound in just enough to hold but not too far to jam the filter - then ease out carefully if you can by levering.

What size of tap would you think is best to use as a starter?

...creeping jeebus. I'd offer you my marlinspike, but distance is a challenge. Do you have any seeger pliers or similar where you can get the bent nose in and above, and then pull?

Ah Circlip pliers I had to Google Seeger pliers needs to be on the UK and USA thread :)
Heat from a hot air gun may assist enough to get it out.
I keep one in my toolbox as it has many uses.

No experience of this and not sure if it is scew fit or push fit. If you have enough access what about the tool you can use to remove broken bolts similar to attached pic……

I would try a tap 2mm larger than the filter ID. I have a spare filter somewhere as my local people dare not take out the old one (not SI I should add). I will see if it is handy and measure it.

not sure its an answer but i have used square profile easy outs in dire situations with some success, they don't expand the part into the thread as badly as forcing a larger screw into it, and it might bite into the plastic, and let you remove it? could be an option if the thread does not work.

Perhaps you could get a right angled drill or adapter, and drill into it to reduce the thickness of the outer walls to allow it to break up. Assuming you can’t push it out like Matt says.

The way to get it out once in that state is to remove the drain bung and use a lever the push it from behind via the drain hole in conjunction by wiggling the outer of the filter with mole grips.
Not as bad as this but even my 700 mile Stradale suffered with a disintegrating filter. All sorted my Matt and Ashley.

Hi, I have the exactly same problem and the stuck filter is exactly in same condition as yours. How did you drill the old filter out? it's very tight there.. I used a lever to push from inside of the gearbox from the drain hole and the filter cracked in pieces inside the gearbox. I am very depressed
Sorry Guys, I have not yet introduced myself here.... I am from Switzerland and have a Gransport MC Victory in black from 2006 ;)
