That's a good point as many do but then there are the Muppets that expect you to pass it but for a long time now it's about covering your backside.

I can remember my Hotrod was in the middle of an MOT when the inspector turned up.
Never been so nervous - but thankfully mine was a “proper” car with correct registration.
 
I'm surprised APNR systems are not used to catch modified plates...pretty sure a daily fixed penalty would start to grate on those who abuse the system.

The ones in car parks and at the ferry dont seem to be able to read the black and silver plates on my Mercury despite being correct size spacing etc.

I'll see if it's the same on my cars as I've got black and silver plates being sorted for the BMW and the Jaguar for the new year Tim.
