Fuel profiteering

On average fuel is £1.60 for E10 and £1.80 for diesel.
I fill up with BP and at BP Wakefield while filling up the BMW with E10 noticed their E5 was £1.70 on Thursday.
Today been into Huddersfield and while there needed some E5 for the Pinin (Mitsubishi say E10 is not compatible with the GDI high pressure fuel pump). Their E10 was £1.60, but their E5 was £1.90 a litre. 30p more.
That to me is pure profiteering by the garage owner, so I refused to fill up!
I've never seen the cancelers 5p cut either.
Just to really **** me off Kirklees have decided overnight to dump what stocks of roads salt they have left everywhere too.
I'm Mr Grumpy today!

It’s all stealth taxes to pay for Covid, have you not worked that one out yet?

The working class were always going to have to pay it back and in usual government fashion, they try and hide it rather than being honest.

Don’t get me started on utilities.

Also pushing up fuel makes the failing electric car sales look more attractive, we are just sheep being herded down a taxation route

With tax increases nobody on a low income pays any tax , nobody at the top pays any tax , not even the chancellors wife who's richer than the Queen FFS ,the way they've structured this everybody has to chip in and once it becomes the norm it'll be accepted, and yet we keep voting the multi millionaires into power so they can **** us even more

Government coffers will also be benefiting from the war in Ukraine, I assume there's an arms deal rather than us handing millions of pounds worth over for free, being part of nato all these arms sat on shelves are a deterrent unlikely to ever be fired , only now there's someone to sell them to for £££..

I noticed France has only increased the utility bills by 4% , stuff gets set on fire when the French aren't happy , we just moan on Facebook.

£200 loan that isn't a loan according to the chancellor, which is a good thing because if they put £200 into some peoples account it'll go on fags, wine, bookies well before the gas bill turns up

Something else , when I get the £200 rebate/not a loan it'll be added to my bills at £40 PA over the next 5 years

My kids still live here , if they move out into their own houses they'll be paying it back at £40 PA and they didn't even receive it

The government are laughing at us, people had the guts to do something about the poll tax back in the 80s , not any more though.

We have billions of tonnes of coal and are Europe's largest prodicer of oil and fossil gas so I've no idea why our bills have gone up 54%, apart from the obvious tax benefit to the government.

It’s called inflation, as predicted when the money presses started printing. Couple that to the rise in oil prices (supply down) due to the war and hey presto. Pure economics.

Just be thankful that interest rates are so low (unless you are a retired saver), a few 'real' jumps in interest rates will hurt far more people.

When I start to see all the PCP cars being returned and people taking holidays at home then I will know that the country is hitting hard times.

Very Well Said mate.
Having seen what happens here first hand in France now into my 4th year I admire the way people stand up and be counted.
People moan about Macron but when the people were not happy during the yellow vests he went around the whole country and listened to the people answering the questions on the spot.
Can you imagine Johnson doing that ?

[Rant warning: please feel free to ignore!]

Fuel profiteering and downright price gouging in certain areas too. And the government looking the other way because they get their cut of the misdeeds.

As others have said above, when you look at all the pieces and behaviours together as a system, it designed to squeeze those who can least afford it the most. In our case, this ‘system’ is being tilted further against us by six home grown factors:
  1. Brexit issues, both foreseen false promises coming home to roost and unforeseen consequences
  2. Naive and short sighted Covid economic response, incompetently executed
  3. Covid related contracts given to either the incompetent or the fraudulent, many of them mates of ministers
  4. Billions being written off instead of being pursued due to (2), (3) and (4)
  5. A chancellor who is happy to make the poorest and middle classes pay for the government’s incompetence and favouritism, to build up the tax coffers for giveaways at the next general election
  6. A PM who is happy to have a fall guy in no. 11 and, frankly, anything that distracts from himself
I don’t have a problem with Sunak’s wealth, green card, wife’s non-dom or brand of trainers he wears… I have a problem with the core job he’s doing as chancellor and the values of a PM who is wilfully letting him.

Final rant observation: when this government came to power, people like Martin Lewis used to give advice on mortgage and credit card deals, now they give advice on how not to starve or freeze.

I do wish we were more like the French in protesting.

[Rant over]

Macron has a tougher challenge over the next couple of weeks, the Frenchies want some changes but they should see what is happening across the channel before they complain.

Over here fuel and energy costs are obviously up but otherwise things look pretty stable and the government were quick to reduce duty where they could and as yet haven't added any new taxes. On the other hand we are still paying 1% austerity tax for the 2008 Celtic Tiger crash.

It won't just be cars being handed back , many people are only housed because of low interest mortgages and dual incomes , they're already on the edge of a big drop , a 2% rise and they'll be off.

Most of us haven't paid 250k upwards for a 2 bed new build shoe box like our kids will have to

Still plenty of places where a starter home can be had for less than a top end car. My own 2nd house purchase is on the market for £60k and the area is better than it was when I lived there (I'm sure I did not hold the prices back btw). Of course if you want a Barrats' shoe box for £250k in the south, then that's what you have to pay.

But then we could all start talking like the 4 Yorkshire men if we carry on with this line!

If you do have a few £ in the kitty to buy new toys, the next year or so could be good news as people dump their assets in fire sales as they are desperate for cash.

cars that were unobtainable may be within reach. Prices at the Bonhams Goodwood sale reflected that with low prices but most lots sold

When life gives you lemons make lemonade!

Some friends have a daughter who's just moved into her first house , affordable housing , they knocked 40k off making it 200k , this is a small semi in Warrington

It's not just the south anymore , this is a sold property
