Two drivers came together, both made decisions in the moment some of which on hindsight might not have been their best, the incidents were reviewed and penalties awarded hopefully they will learn but I suspect not the need to win is key to their thought processes and when its as close as it currently is mistakes will be made as long as no one gets injured.

It is clear that these two are super close in their overall package, car, skill, commitment and it great to see two performing at such a similar level, it is also clear to see that the rest of the field are really close too just a few rungs down the ladder in overall package than Hamilton and Verstappen

All true- and I also put blame for the BS at the doors of the commentators , for winding up narrative and forcing ussues that arent...to the team bosses for for ramping up rhetoric and ancrimony...Verstappen is young and susceptible to influences that arent always good, from people who should know better..
All that said- the race was somehow better for their absence...
( edit- I certainly didnt feel it was diminished, put it that way !)
Go figure !??!

There is a lot of name calling and indignation re this crash. I get it that there are a lot of Hamilton fans here but lets stick to what happened and be a bit more objective:

They crashed
Max’s car slid over Hamilton’s halo
The car came to rest on Hamilton’s front wing and wheel, well in front of the halo
Both drivers tried to see if they could carry on - it seems Max briefly engaged gear to go forward but gave up when he realised one wheel was spinning (the wheel on Hamilton’s car did not move because the non-loaded wheel spun due to the differential). The other possibility is that he let out the clutch after the crash and it was still in gear. In any case there was no danger to Hamilton.
Whilst Max was climbing out of his car, Hamilton engaged in full reverse to get out with danger to Max had he succeeded as Max was in the process of climbing out.
Once out, Max saw Hamilton still trying to reverse so moved away
Max was adjudged to be predominantly the cause of the crash
Max was given a 3 place grid penalty for the next race

So if there is any indignation, it would seem that it could be for Max being adjudged predominantly the cause (but not fully, i.e. exactly the same position Hamilton was in at Silverstone and for which, for the record, there was no indignation on this forum).

I don’t see any justification for there being indignation for Max not checking to see if Hamilton, in the process of reversing, was ok whilst at the same time not noting with indignation that Hamilton was actually trying to reverse whilst Max was climbing out of his car with direct danger to Max. Let’s keep it real and let’s stop the name calling.

With respect to the penalty, as was the case in Silverstone (with more speed and much more serious crash), there were two racers going at it full tilt and not willing to give in, and in both cases the stewards decided that one of the drivers was predominantly the cause of the crash and they penalised that driver. In Hamilton’s case, the 10 second penalty still allowed him to win with Max out, leading to a 26 point swing. In Max’s case, he didn’t go on to score in Monza so they penalised him for the next race. So the penalty will bite Max a lot more than it did Hamilton so any talk of a “weak“ penalty is unjustified. In any case penalties are given for the crash without taking into account any effect on the championship. Whether that is fair is another discussion.

Lets enjoy the next race and hope they both calm down a bit…
Well articulated. History seems to judge great drivers well and we rarely discuss the rights and wrongs of Senna, Prost, Schumacher, despite some damning evidence at the time. I am not a great fan of Hamilton but it is impossible to deny his ability despite having the best equipment (cf Senna, Prost etc). I think Max is the next truly great driver (similarly outpacing every team mate) and we should enjoy some great racing if they can give each other just a few more centimeters of room! I am not interested in what racing drivers (or other sports people or musicians or artists etc) have to say as they are rarely qualified. Just get on with the day job you are paid handsomely to do.....

At some point, you have to ask yourself whether we should really be congratulating; ney, egging on, some pretty basic failures of sportsmanship... The fact they get paid for it only makes it worse...
Im done. Its a car forum. Im as aguilty as the rest of you...but seriously...!

Firstly, thank Halo for saving Hamilton from a nasty injury. Verstappen isn't going to win the championship by not finishing unless Hamilton also doesn't finsh a race either.

regardless of them two. well done McLaren for their One-Two. They were in contention all weeknd and got themselves into a position to win. Regardless of the champioship leaders, the McLarens were in front of both of them and desrved the win and second. honorable mention to Bottas for his last to third, thwarted by that Pesky Perez, otherwise might have got higher on the podium but Lando is difficult to overtake as proven by Hamilton

Mclaren actually has a very interesting package this year. Shame they didnt get it together a year earlier. Could have been fun if they had another year to develop. Probably would be right up there with mercedes and red bull!

Goat = greatest of all time.
Allegedly.... ;)
Watched the Schumacher documentary on Netflix yesterday, the work that went into turning Ferrari's fortunes around was above and beyond, testing the cars during the nightime etc, don't get that nowadays, the rules don't allow it I don't think, The Goat has been handed a car capable of winning the championship for the whole hybrid era and before, a car initially developed by Schumacher (and Brawn) I might add. Let's see the Goat in some lesser machinery and see what he's capable of, as in the drives and building a team that wills to succeed.
Just look at what Russell does with inferior machinery, watch this space..

I should have clarified, in some people’s opinion, not mine.

I dunno man. This G.O.A.T. thing was allegedly started by Colin Edwards when referring to Rossi...
Rossi has captured the hearts of generations of MotoGP fans...
Somehow he has maintained his appeal despite serial winning....
There’s more to a goat than just winning the races ! :f8:

Schumacher and Vettel were rather disliked during their day... Other categories Jimmie Johnson is a 7x NASCAR champion is seems widely disliked.

Ps: IndyCar is currently live at Leguna Sega and is rather entertaining
