It did get a bit Pistonheads angry for a while there, which is a shame.

I for one admire the OP's have a go spirit. It doesn't seem to have worked out too well this time, but that seems to be the game he likes to play, and good luck to him!

I do love a bloke that "has a go", let's be honest how many here that recommend a specialist inspection actually had one done on their own purchase?.......thought not....

I bet the bloke that sold it couldnt believe his luck!
He must've known how bad it was and even knowing that still tried to flog the ABS sensors for more.

I do have a strange attraction to the Citroen C6, fortunately medication is keeping it under control
I have actually owned my Citroën C6 for three years now, and while the initial purchase price was similar to lateralsteve's QP, its upkeep and repairs would make even the most embittered Maserati owners weep.

I sincerely hope lateralsteve has better luck than with his than I did. He'll be able to change his user name to C6steve, which is how the car can make the passengers feel due to its wafty, floaty ride.

At £2.5k the seller mugged himself. I could probably have got more from a breaker!

Expensive then, not sure I like that - what went wrong? I had heard that the diesel engine is indestructible regardless of mileage

That wafty, floaty ride is sort of what I am after, I need something cheap to do 120 miles a day on mainly dual carriageway roads. Something that just cruises from A to B without any drama

I bought the car because I wanted a cheap alternative to the 4200 for the daily commute and to try and keep the miles off it, especially over winter.

The diesel engine is not indestructible - check on the Jaguar and Range Rover forums for some horror stories. The oil level can go too high if there aren't frequent forced regens, which happens if the car doesn't get enough long runs. This causes the crankshaft to self-destruct, so I keep an eye on the oil level in mine and change it yearly rather than every two years as recommended. Mine's done almost 100k now and I have heard of some with over 300k on the clock so they can be reliable if looked after.

The faults I've had on mine were all of the usual C6 ********, from memory they included:
Alternator failure
ABS sensor
CAN control module
EGR valve seized
Steering rack leak
Rear body height sensor seized
Suspension bushes
Boot struts

Most of the repairs were very expensive - parts can be similar in price to Maserati and they are a pig to work on so labour is a bit eye-watering too. I use a well-known indie in Herts to look after mine.

I've done a further 15k miles in it since the repairs and it's all running well now so I've now probably just jinxed it by saying that.

The ride is very wafty and it is a good motorway cruiser. The things I don't like are the diesel engine which is a bit noisy and rough, and the gearbox, which is a bit dim-witted, but I intend to keep it for a few years or until it needs more than its value to repair it again.

If I haven't put you off, they are an interesting alternative to the Germans and I always get people asking about it wherever I've parked up.
