The right way forward for sure ...
Wouldn't say it would make much difference. Given the current climate (market & virus), the Cat rating but mostly the owner envisages a "keeper".
Useful to keep busy though and maybe business brownie points too. Fingers crossed for a relatively painless process.

I just mean in keeping the authenticity & originality which is what I would be after. But more importantly, it is a known car & engine which looks like it was in excellent pre-incident condition. It can be a lottery buying a used engine when you don't know it's history

You probably already know this, but Pacific-Motors, on US ebay has brand new f430/m4200 cylinder liners pt#190770 for $69.99 ea. ebay item # 272056712879. I've bought a couple, and they are in orig Ferrari boxes.
Thanks for the heads up on that , should they be required once the internal inpection has been completed then they will be bought thanks for that

That is being contemplated ;) but the originality issue is winning the argument at the moment .....................but watch this space

Personally originality would be low on my priorities, it will always be a CAT car and isn't a Lamborghini Miura.
Build what you want never what others would like is my motto.

Its not a Cat car its completely free and clear on HPI register which is one for the main reasons for keeping the originality

It didn't get into coparts hands through a payout from the car insurance company to the previous owner then?
Probably need to re read the thread, sorry.

There is the odd occasion when insurance companies dont apply a catergory to a vehicle , alternatively Copart do sell vehicles on behalf of private entries , i am not sure which of these instances applies in this inst to this vehicle , but it was advertised as being HPI clear, perhaps the original owner will clarify in time

What we do know is that the water ingess was purely through the air intake , and absolutely nothing within the car or anywhere near the electrics ecu etc

Other than the inner engine damage sustained , the car still retains its full integrity in my view, if you blew an engine through lack of oil on the road , you wouldnt expect an insurance company to apply a catergory .....................you would bear the cost yourself for the repairs

So, you're saying the previous sucked up a bunch(?) of water, and then had to suck up a loss to dispose of the headache...?
That does seem unfortunate....

Is it cat’d? The advert said no, and this is the current trend by insurers, write it off, but don’t cat it, hey presto, printing money.

That is concerning.
Should be checked through Vcheck our forum sponsor.
For sure, there are legal implications amongst the ploy somewhere..
It does make sense that a broken engine doesnt have consequences beyond the cost of repair however...
And if it means cars are not written off at the stroke of a bean counters pen, then , perhaps, in some cases,,,thats a good enough thing..?
Im sure afew of us feel that a ding that writes off a nice Mserati because of their spares pricing strategy is a wasteful and seemingly unnecessary conclusion...

As i understand it the new grading system is as follows There is still

Cat A which gets crushed automatically no spares onto the market place
Cat B which is breaker only ( or for direct shipment abroad outside EU at present ) car chassis not to return on Bitish roads hence impossible to register
Cat S which appears to me to replace Cat C possibly structural but possible to repair
Cat N which appears to me to replace Cat D usually financial write off/ cost of repairs at authorised dealership exceeds 40% of the vehicle value
Stolen recovered minor exterior or undercarriage damage

All the above appear to involve some kind of damage which may be deemed to be detrimental to the cars overall safety and integrity

Cat N stands for non structural which on an older car just can be light light panel damage, not detrimental to the cars integrity at all.
