Fitting spacers - DIY or job for a garage?

All

I’ve got a set of FD spacers sat on my table at home (25mm front, 22mm rear) and am tempted to fit them to my GTS this weekend.

I’m interested in knowing how many of you would choose to do this yourself, or whether I ought to be taking the car to the local garage?

When answering please bear in mind I’m nowhere near the level of some of you lot in terms of being a hands-on, fully fledged mechanical engineering expert!

Thanks

Jon

I put 22mm all round on mine.
Took to my local tyre place who I know well and they fitted for me - much quicker.

Mine were separately bolted on rather than “bolt though” so I was keen to get them torqued correctly. Went back 100 miles later for torque check -

I am perfectly able to do it, just lazy .... what would have taken me a couple of hours in the rain took them 20mins in the dry!

There are a great mod and you will love the look

DIY, assuming you have a torque wrench and a decent trolley jack. And watch those wheels - lightweight they're not!

DIY... If you can change a tyre you can fit spacers. As with all of these things Torque wrench is needed to be safe.

Where are you based? I've got some odds and sods to do, but could easily do that if you bring it over.

That's a very kind offer C, but I'm confident I can change a tyre, so I think I will have a go and do them myself. May then take the car to my nearest ATS and get them to check the alignment...

I'm glad you did it yourself, it's just a question of confidence. You 'should' be able to change a tyre on a car and this isn't much different.
New learners have to be mechanically competent on car, such as where the oil goes, tyre pressures etc.
So there's no reason why us real men should be less capable than the useless youth with their low slung pants and lack of socks.
