First impressions on Larini X-pipe

Have just installed a new Larini X-pipe on a GTS Automatic post 2013 model.

The burbles have definitely become more apparent. Sound is louder in Sport Manual, it wasn’t my aim but it is. Most decernable difference is sharp bark on mildly fast down shifts.

I’ve read others say the sound is not as exotic as the original. Speaking about a new pipe then I’d agree it sounds less exotic but it doesn’t end up sounding like a GM V8 engine.

As it stands I’m neither against it nor for it right now, particularly as I drive throughout the week. I’ll see if my view changes over the next few months.

I prefer the H pipe tbh but I fitted an X to my current car. The X is more of a scream and the H is a deeper note in my opinion

For those who have moved to an X or H pipe, how easy/difficult is the install?

Drove into Aldi this morning in Blanchardstown, Aldi guy was creaming himself when he saw/heard the QP, made his day he said, ‘that exhaust note’ he said. Told him can’t hear owt inside, double glazed.

Can’t hear t’benefit....

Its a simple job 'if' the nuts come off and the exhaust separates easily...it should.

You would need a lift otherwise it will be extremely difficult to fit.

Pay your local village garage to do it, looking at £50-100 and simply not worth spending the afternoon wriggling around on the floor swearing.

It took me about an hour to do it but I have a ramp. Mine also came apart very easily but my car only had 6000 miles on it when I put it on.
Shouldn't be an expensive job for a garage to do.

Mine only had 10k miles on and was a complete tw4t to install. Much swearing. larini diameters far from good. Would pay next time.

I’m very glad I had my mechanic and his colleague. They said x-pipe was shorter than oem pipe plus you have loosen rear exhaust to be able to slide the x-pipe in. Took them about 40 minutes using lift, as things weren’t easy to loosen.

Under more throttle that’s when it’s noticeably louder than oem in sport manual, however burbles are now very easy on overrun. All close to normal sound levels in Sport Auto and just Auto.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I do have access to a lift but if I do go with a new X or H pipe, I'll probably have a local garage fit it for me.

Knowing what I know now I'm very glad I didn't have a go installing it with a friend, as I've done with past cars.

X pipes are sexual on this car lol. Mines hibernating for winter but I have her a wee spin out last weekend.
3 years on and it still stirs the soul.

I have always found the sound files of little real world value, plus I’m hopeless at that stuff. I’ve also noticed with our summer how deeper and more burbling you can get out of the exhaust in general.

On mine Race mode is a lot louder but If I'm coming home late and don't want to annoy anyone I put mine in sport and it's nearly as quiet as a std exhaust so on yours Sport mode would be a lot louder and STD mode would be almost as quiet as it is now.

Is STD mode highly infectious?

I'll get my coat.....
