Finally bit the bullet

Hi everybody,

After almost 12 months of deliberation involving an unhealthy amount of time trawling for online info on sites such as this, I finally grew a pair and bought my new baby last week.

Its an 03 Cambiocorsa in Grigio Nuvolari and is everything I expected it to be

It had covered 69,000 miles and has been serviced by Meridien and Maranello, having had a clutch and pump and front brakes around 3000 miles ago. I estimated that I would do around 3-5000 miles per year as I have an Alfa GT as daily transport but have managed to cover 1000 miles in the Maserati in the first 10 days! (Obvious honeymoon period).

In this initial 1000 miles the car has driven faultlessly apart from 2 minor annoyances that initially caused some panic. Once, whilst entering a motorway slip road, the gearbox warning light came on but did not affect the car at all. After about 2 minutes the light went out and has not been seen since. Secondly, on a particularly spirited drive across the Yorkshire dales on a baking hot afternoon, the skyhook light came on, again I could not notice a difference in the car. I pulled over switched off, restarted the car and eveything was fine again. Neither of these 2 issues have since reoccurred.

I will obviously have these things investigated at service time but would ask if they are normal/common things to happen.

Otherwise the car is epic!

Congratulations on such a fine motor, facelift wheels or an early facelift example? Don't worry about the lights, it is just the Italian in her...

I think it's an early facelift car. Good to hear your initial thoughts on the lights. Fortunately am well versed giving a car the benefit of the doubt when confronted with mechanical and electrical nuances and gremlins. This stems from a history of serial TVR ownership. I am also used to facing a totally unexpected invoice for a ridiculous sum of money once in a while. Not yet though. Please.

Congratulations on your new car, looks like a beauty. Don't worry about the lights if they have gone but if the suspension light comes on again, it's likely just to be a cheap accelerometer. The gearbox light is nothing to worry about unless is happens again but that's unlikely. If a gearbox has a fault it will usually be major and you wouldn't be lucky enough for it to be gone in two minutes, the light can flash on from time to time.

Thanks for all the replies.

I must admit I joined the forum with some trepidation as I learned most of my Maserati knowledge through Pistonheads.

This was great when I had TVRs but the lack of a specific Maserati forum (Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and Bugatti) where most posters seemed to offer opinion, rather than experience and useful information brought me here. 50% factual info and 50% ******** seemed to be the norm.

Thanks again. I am certain I will need help in the future. Looking forward to future trials and tribulations that can be overcome by your collective knowledge.

Welcome and your car looks great. Bellisimo ! They all have a bit of Luigi in them best to keep her in sport mode and keep the rev counter needle towards the 7500 area. Phil.

Thanks again, I already feel more comfortable about the sporadic warning light issue.

It's a long time since I've been as childishly excited about a new car. After 12 months of information gathering, I still went out and happened to buy the first car I looked at without an inspection :omg:. I thought I wanted a manual in a dark colour but the car looked so good, the seller seemed a very genuine person and everything just seemed right. Sometimes things don't work out as planned.

Parisien - The misinformation is what brought me here.

Andyk - Done the whole TVR thing over the years. Grantura, 2x 3000M, 3000M Turbo, Tuscan S, 2x Cerbera and a Sagaris, all having been driven to Le Mans or European Grand Prix circuits. My favourite was my Reflex Charcoal Cerbera 4.5 Red Rose. I am not new to a little pain, cost and disappointment.

Iv'e generally never really been a fan of one marque forums but was given numerous recommendations to join sportsmaserati. I am very impressed with the website and can see there is a mine of valuable experience and information on here.

I am in the North West and will be looking to use Autoshield for servicing once I have done another 1000 miles or so, as I have heard good reports about them.

I now hope to move on from newbie status and expect to be spending a considerable amount of time on here.

Off for a drive:happy:

Some lovely TVR's you've had there. I loved the T350T had it done it and enjoyed. Would I do it again...Probably not....it was just a pain in the bum...I used it everyday and the warming up ritual was just a pain....loved it though.
